Can't answer incoming call when using another app

This issue cropped up about two weeks ago. If I have Messaging open and the phone goes to sleep (screen blanks), if I get a call I can't close the Messaging App to get to the Phone screen to swipe and answer the call. I've also now noticed that if the screen is blanked when I get a call, the phone rings and the screen remains blanked. I have to press the Home key to "wake up" the phone before I can swipe and answer the call. Anybody have any thoughts?

Welcome to Android Central! Try booting into Recovery and wiping the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data: Reset: Samsung Galaxy S 4 | T-Mobile Support

Wiping the cache appears to have resolved the issue.
