Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
You have to register on Samsung site. I thought I had but it was for a TV and an old phone. After I registered I got email confirming in about 30 min. Had to go to work but assume when I get home MiniKies will work and phone will upgrade. We shall see. Some folks saying it won't upgrade if you installed the maintainence upgrade. It was so much easier with WebOS!

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
I used Odin back to stock, and it did work for me. I was no longer getting "unregistered device" and the button to upgrade was available. However, instead of upgrading, I decided just to go ahead with a custom ROM because I don't wont to go without Root and I don't like some of the changes the upgrade makes - such as losing sound/silent toggle on notification drop down.
So I installed ZEUS from XDA site. After some initial problems caused by me, it is working great. The notification shade is super - it has like 18 toggles and you can chose which to include and in what order.
Otherwise very smooth. I am happy.
But good luck to all that are still struggling with the Samsung update. - 02-04-2012, 06:27 PM #28
Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
Still getting unregistered. I am registered as confirmed by an e-mail from Samsung. I downloaded Kies and got the unregistered notice. Finally got on with Samsung Chat and they told be Windows 7 64 is the problem. You have to use 32 bit Windows (which is so insane) , so I went to my lap top with 32 bit windows and went through the whole process again, and still got the same message.
Since there seems to be no official Samsung fix, even though I don't know what all the programs everyone here is talking about, I will try them!

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
I have the same problem with the unregistered device. I just got off a chat with Samsung and Spencer told me that a factory reset would solve the problem via the option in the phone before I do that I was wondering if anyone else tried the same thing with success?
confused:

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
Samsung Tech has no idea... After trying on and off all day, I still have no Gingerbread. Still have "unregistered" and greyed out box. 1st tech said Minikies won't work with Windows 7 64 bit, so I used my 32 bit version on my laptop. Still nothing. 2rd tech said its not the version of Windows, it's the version of MiniKies so they sent a link and I loaded in again, but still get same error. 3rd tech said I need to wait 24 hours after registering for it to show up (it's been 2 days, I have e-mail confirming registration and the phone shows up on my Samsung account page) So half a day gone and no upgrade.

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
Yes, that is exactly my experience as well. I didn't actually try the reps suggestions because I didn't believe them. Glad you did, confirming my beliefs (was going to try 32 bit system but didn't have one easily available). Rummor has it a OTA update will be available on 2/8 if you believe that. - 02-05-2012, 08:06 AM #34
Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
The problem I'm having right now is that Kies mini just stays on the home screen after I connect my Infuse to my PC. When I connect my phone to my PC, I select "Kies (Firmware update)" on my phone, but nothing happens. The drivers are install for the device so I haven't got a clue whats going on.

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
I've been looking everywhere for that rumor to see if it's true, but I could not find it anywhere. Yes, it is on Wikipedia, which is an accurate source (people underestimate that, sadly), but I sure could use more sources. Add that to the fact that whoever wrote about the rumor didn't add any citations, and you've gotten yourself up into a tirade thirsting for the knowledge of when exactly or if that OTA patch will come and whether or not we'll ever get Gingerbread.
I'm hoping for the best, that the OTA update will be out by 2/8 and that we will get Gingerbread.
I'm pretty sure AT&T and Samsung both know that most every Infuse user has been waiting for an excessive amount of time for Gingerbread, given that they have received countless posts on Facebook about when the Infuse will get it. So the two companies will likely work together to fix the "unregistered device" problems and (depending on the validity of the rumors) release a patch to fix the problem.
The bottom line of what I'm saying here is that the rumor must come true so that anyone who had problems getting Gingerbread (I'm one of them) will be able to get it. - 02-05-2012, 08:21 AM #36

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
Well after a day of trouble shootong with the Samsung rep & after a full factory reset. The rep told me that I'll need to call and get my Infuse replaced or I could use the GTG ultimate unbricking but it kinda scares me since I'm not the most techy guy. Anyways my Infuse also had the problem charging issue too so I guess I'll get two birds with one stone.

I went back to stock last night and I still couldnt update. Im just gonna keep froyo. In fact all my apps were force closing so i went to device management and tried to download uckh5 update and it kept failing. So and I backed up all my photos onto my computer and factories restored my device because it was just all screwed up. After I factory restored I went back to device management and downloaded the november update over the air and I am still at froyo. Kies mini sucks ***

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
Im not a techie..but I used the GTG utility and in about 10 minutes I had the update ready to install. Piece of cake. I did have to do a factory reset afterwards though because of an avalanch of force closes. Now with everything reloaded, this phone flies and the GPS functions beautifully.

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
Been there, done that. Still no GB. Believe me, like many others here, I've spent countless hours in live chats with Samsung and phone calls, too. I have done every suggestion they've given me from Kies 2.0 to Mini Kies, to uninstalling all drivers, rebooting, re-installing, USB debugging on and off, USB setting to Kies firmware -- you name it, I've done. The one thing I won't do is a factory reset. I've read here that several people did it and still can't get the update. Screw AT&T for bad management and poor planning! And that last statement will be sent via Twitter, too.Egídio

For some reason it seems like the folks that purchased the first batch of Infuses ever made are unable to upgrade. Me being one of them. I did the gtg unbrick and everything and it still didnt allow me to upgrade to gb. Im almost content with sticking to froyo.

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
Just do what i did i got this from the Infuse forum on AT&T and it worked.
I too had the problem that everyone is having with kies mini and Samsung support, but I found a fix and it does not require gtg unbrick to be use..
Here is what I did:
1.Download the .md5 file from this post he captured it from kies mini. Download the file it will be called I997UCKL2-Homebinary.tar.md5 save it where you can find it like your desktop.
If you have a Mac, then I guess that you could unzip it and flash it thru heimdall, not sure of how to do this as I don't have a mac
2. Download and save Odin3 1.7 from here v1.7.exe to your desktop
3, When the .md5 file is done downloading it will be called I997UCKL2-Homebinary.tar.md5
4. Run Odin, make sure infuse shows up as a com port. Load the upgrade, which will end in md5, into the PDA slot
5.Place phone in download mode here is how you do this
1.Once the files are selected put the phone in download mode. (Pull battery, replace battery, press and hold both volume buttons while plugging in the USB cable connected to the PC.)
2.Once you see the device connected in ODIN, hit the Start button to begin the flashing process.
3.Once the process completes, the phone will reboot.
6. The phone think on the ATT splash screen that is normal with any update.
7. Welcome to Gingerbread. you can verify this by seeing the icons at the top in the tray will be smaller (i.e battery, signal, network,)
8. Go to menu-> About Phone -> Firmware verision will say 2.3.6(GB)
Baseband Version will be I997UCKL2
Kernel version will be 2.6.35.7-I997UCKL2-CL806505
Build Number will be Gingerbreat.UCKL2
9. Pass this around to every one you know that can't update their phones for kies mini including ATT rep they are lost on this as I had an encounter with one today where the samsung rep disconnected the chat with him well he was trying to help me.
10. Be nice to ATT they have no control over this update this is Samsung problem written all over it.

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
Here is what I got from Samsung today:
Vanessa : I understand that you want to update your device to Gingerbread, is that correct?
Visitor: Correct
Vanessa : Thank you for the confirmation.
Vanessa : Apologies for the inconvenience. To fix the issues with the recent 4G update, Samsung and AT&T have decided to release a patch and hence they have currently placed the update on hold.
Visitor: Ok
Vanessa : When an update is released you will get notification from the Carrier or posted in Samsung Website. - 02-07-2012, 01:59 PM #47

Re: Unregistered Device on Mini Kies
Just read this: Remember that Android 2.3.6 update to the AT&T Samsung Infuse 4G that was prematurely announced last week before finally getting going? Yeah. It's on hold, apparently. According to an answer in Samsung's support forums, things didn't go quite as planned.
We currently have put a hold on the update. Samsung and AT&T are aware of the issue with the Infuse 4G Update and are developing a fix.
AT&T has confirmed to Android Central that indeed the update's on hold and that "we are working with Samsung to get this resolved as quickly as possible." For everyone (including us) still stuck on Froyo, hang in there. - 02-07-2012, 02:22 PM #49
