AT&T Cancellation vs. Verizon Activation
My ATT contract expiration date is tomorrow, 7/15, and I plan to buy, or online order a DX also tomorrow. I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I just don't want to give ATT any excuse to ding me for an ETF.
If I order a DX tonight, after midnight, and receive it on Friday 7/16, will the ATT contract cancellation take place when the DX is activated, or upon my placement of the order with Verizon? I'm assuming that the ATT cancellation occurs automatically, and that I don't need to contact them.
Also wondering if the ATT account cancellation occurs at the time of the order placement, does that mean the old ATT phone is no longer usable from that time forward? - 07-14-2010, 03:50 PM #2
YOu're porting your number over, correct? Your att account will not be cancelled until you try and activate your new phone. So as long as that is after the 15th, you should be good.

It would be best for you to call ATT and see what they say. Your contract should be moving to month to month unless you agree to renew to a new 1 or 2 yr contract. If its month to month, I dont think you will be charged a ETF. Your ATT contract has nothing to do with activating a Verizon phone, so ATT cant charge you for activating a Verizon phone, you would just have 2 seperate bills.

That Menno knows what he's talking about! Welcome to Verizon! I love them and no I don't work for them. Enjoy the new phone.
