Error retrieving information from server.[RPC:S-5:AEC-0]

I tried many things but nothing worked until I decided to clear the data for the "google account manager" that's all I had to do -- so many mentioned to delete the account and recreate the account which is kinda scary.

Go to Settings → Apps → ALL → Google Account ManagerClear Data.

Reboot device.

Done.

It worked for my Nexus 7 (Android 4.2.2). Received 17 updates :-).

Please there is no help up till now I followed all the instructions from clearing data cache removing Google account still cant open it

used this one both of my kids tablets and it worked!!

I AM SOOOOO GRATEFUL! this was my last attempt at getting them to work!!

Thank you to jim as your advice was spot on

I have the answer to this problem. TELL ONE AND ALL TO SAVE XMAS

APPS:AT TOP RIGHT GO TO ALL APPS THEN GO TO PLAY STORE AND CLEAR CACHE (NOT DATA)
THEN FORCE STOP.
COME OUT EVERYTHING TO THE HOME SCREEN.
GO BACK INTO SETTINGS
APPS
ALL APPS:THEN GO TO THE APP UNDER PLAY STORE (CALLED MARKETPLACE SERVICES OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT) AND CLEAR DATA (NOT CACHE) THEN FORCE STOP.
SWITCH OFF AND ON AND HEY PRESTO GET DOWNLOADING THOSE APPS.

this was spot on and fixed my problems!

Simply clearing the cache and data did not help me. However, Rremoving my google account and re-adding it worked. Thanks!

Hi all.

I have the same problem here and until now nothing really worked out.

I discovered that if you are installing your apps from the google play website the apps are installing on your device, strange isn't it ?
I really would like to see an explanation by google.

Tomorrow I will get a new iPad Mini , kind of sad , but no options left. :(

I tried everything on this thread except clearing the data in the google play app (only did cache as too many people had issue from clearing the data), even hoped it would work to just clear the data in google account manager app, but the only thing that did work for me was: settings, accounts, google, select your account, remove account, then settings, accounts, add account, follow prompt to add your existing account, rebooted to make sure and voila! Tried everything else multiple times because the idea of removing the google account freaked me out, but it couldn't have been easier, no worries, no issues. Hope it is just as easy for you!
