    Default Apps for my Grandma?

So I game my mommom my 8gb nexus 7(I got the galaxy note 2 and have a laptop, she dosen't have much $ nor much of an internet connection so it's something).
I set it up for her with a bunch of games, cut the rope, angry birds, billiards and a couple of others.

She's gone nuts over angry birds! And she's told me she rushes to get housework done to play games with her tablet.

I need to get her sketchbook mobile(I have the apk saved from when I bought it, again she dosen't have much $$$).

Does anyone know of any great and free apps that don't need an internet connection after the initial donwload? She LOVES games like katamari, crash bandicoot, billiards and scrabble(words w/friends needs a consistent internet connection augh!). I play cut the rope, my little pony, and mass effect as well as a few others, but I don't know what else she will enjoy in terms of games for her. If you know of a game that's great but is paid, it needs to not need to check for purchase verification at every launch because I'd have to buy it with my account and copy her the APK because again, they don't have extra cash and I don't want to hook up MY card to her account in case she were to accidentally buy something that costs money.

Also, any good free books you recommend? She's gotten into westerns as of late.

I don't know where you live, but you might want to check out the local library for ebooks. You may have to install the kindle app to do so.

As far as games, my dh loves to play casino games on his iphone, and I'm pretty sure they are available in the Play store too. I am not sure what's available in free games as I don't play them much, but it might be worth a browse online at the Play store.

I've got an app designed especially for Grandmas. It helps you look after your grandma. Grandma needs a tablet or a doingle (works fine on most dongles) works best on Nexus 7.

What does it do. Mostly it shows a gallery of the pictures you send her. The android in her room ia always on and connected to the net. Yu can send her pictures from your handset (Show Grandma at tradersmicro in Google Play). If she does not hear very well, try Txt Grandma or Hard of Hearing from the www.Stay-in-Touch.ca (note .ca). You can Skype her. These functions do not require her to do anything, the pictures just come, the Hard of Hearing texts just arrive, the Movei and the Skype just starts. The aim here is that not all grandmas are computer-adept, so this is an easy way in. There is quite a good pills thing too Android-tele-Health.

At the moment it is free, it will likely be $25 per year later. We are just rounding up the capital and the other expertise we need to go big. It works just fine, but it can be more beautiful and better explained/

We were just at a Hackathon in Montreal...Hacking Health. Our project was to build a family support group to be sure she gets a phone call every day at least. ANd when she gets more infirm and cannot guarantee to reach the phone in 4 rings, Call-Grandma-Safe where the phone only rings if she is sitting doen in an instrumented chair. If he runs (the grandmas we are looking at here do not even walk well) she may fall, and that's bad, she can get put n a home or break a hip which is just as bad.

Hi Kate - a little late to be replying but I'm a grandmother and I enjoy Jewels Legends and Bejewelled - matching games and you can get them free on the App Store. If you can access Amazon and set up an account they have a free app each day. I've found some really enjoyable games there. If you can organise to have access to the Nexus overnight you could have a look at what's available on line and download them. The App Store and Amazon Apps have some of the Big Fish games, including hidden object games and I've got them free. I enjoy those. I do enjoy Pocket Mine which my 8 year old grandson and I play. Very simple, you can get upgrades etc through Facebook but it can be played on it's own without an internet connection.

If you're looking for ebooks for her, Amazon also has many free ebooks but you need to be able to browse and download. Download the Kindle app if you are planning to download some ebooks from Amazon. I use Calibre as a library manager and it can also change books formats.

    Hope this is useful.

We recently published Digital Photo Frame app for Seniors. (Search for 'Senior Frame' by EllevSoft).

A simple digital photo frame app that downloads photos from emails received. Family members and friends can simply send an email with photos attached. That's it! Senior Frame will automatically download photos and display in slideshow.

This isn't offline app if she wants to update new photos that (you) might be sending? However, it can be an offline app because this app doesn't require to be connected to view photos.

    Hope this helps!

Our game "Shape Puzzles Pro" is perfect for Grannies. Tested it on my mother and my father which are 64. They loved it.
Just google it as I can not yet post links. If you find the flash version it has links to play store.
You wont find it easily in play store, it's buried very deep.

If your grandma loves fish you can download "Fishing Vida". Fish Vida is for free and doesn't require an internet connection.

"Old Face" is something my grandpa really loves. "Mind Games" app is also worth.

Drop Words--there is also a pro version, but you don't have to have it.

It's pretty easy to browse free apps in Play Store.

Baen Books has an extensive free library of ebooks, if she is into that type of thing (mostly SF). Classics can be downloaded free from many places, including manybooks.net. They can all be read with a variety of eReaders, including Kindle App (free), or Cool Reader (free). Kindle is easier, and most of the books that are free on Baen or Manybooks are also available free on Amazon (along with a zillion others for free), but you do need an internet connection to at least download the book. If you do it for her and then transfer the file, instead of relying on Amazon's auto-sync, the .mobi format book goes into the /kindle directory on the phone. There are some large collections of books that will hold her for awhile. It is of course WAY simpler to just rely on Amazon's whisper sync feature to do it for you. No muss, no fuss.

This site has a newsletter that will tell you about new releases that go "free" on Amazon, if that works for you: Kindle Buffet
