I have been watching for this for awhile now. I'm a fan of ESET's NOD32 for PC and figured I'd like the mobile version also. Unfortunately I had missed the release due to having a very hectic last month and having to do a lot of traveling but, I searched the forums and blogs and still haven't seen mention of it so, I figured I'd share just in case. Worst case senario I get a bunch of people telling me how they already knew and on and on. So, if you've heard, cool. If not, you might be interested.

SAN DIEGO – April 28, 2011 – ESET is expanding its portfolio of security solutions to protect devices running on the popular Android platform. This expands ESET's growing mobile security offerings, which also includes ESET Mobile Security for Symbian and Windows Mobile. The BETA version is available for download on the company's website.

According to recent research by Gartner, the worldwide sales of smartphones amounted to 297 million units last year, an increase of more than 72 percent from 2009. The Android operating system alone accounts for 22.7 percent of this total. Growth in the US market has been particularly strong, with comScore reporting that US sales of Android phones surpassed Apple's iPhone for the first time in December 2010. With its latest addition, ESET's Mobile Security solutions now protect more than 60 percent of smartphone users from emerging threats.

"As Android-powered smartphones and tablets become increasingly popular, the users often rely on them to store and process significant amounts of sensitive data, in many cases without realizing the risk of putting all that data on a small portable device. What's more, personal information intended to be kept private is continually shared or transferred wirelessly. Files, emails, text and multimedia messages deserve the highest level of protection in order to avoid misuse when placed in the wrong hands," says Miroslav Majtaz, Mobile Security Specialist at ESET. "ESET Mobile Security is our answer to rising security concerns in the mobile device sector," he adds.

It might be worth it. Mobile devices are more of a threat now than computers are because they are left open to viruses and attacks, plus the fact that they are mobile and have more connectivity makes it more necessary to have protection. Thanks for sharing.

Re: ESET Releases BETA Version of ESET Mobile Security for Androi

Has anyone had trouble uninstalling ESET Secutiry? I know how to deactivate it as a device administrator:

1. Tap the Launcher icon on the Android home screen and tap Settings > Location and security > Select device administrators, deselect EMS and tap Deactivate.
2. Go back to the Settings and tap Applications > Manage applications > EMS > Uninstall.

The problem is after I tap Deactivate, ESET Security is still checked in the device administrator list and it won't allow me to uninstall it. I'd like to get rid of the app, but not enough that I want to wipe my phone =/ Any ideas?
