Why do 51 "available blue tooth devices" sometimes appear on my Android when I scan inside my house

I live in a house, not an apartment, in a typical suburban neighborhood and only own several b.t devices that do not appear on the list when I scan. Sometimes 23 devices will appear, other times more. And still other times, just 1 or 2. Usually the list is comprised of addresses only, however, an iPhone always shows up and on several occaisions, a couple of unfamiliar names will show up amongst long lists of addresses. I do not have many, if not ANY neighbors within range! I sometimes can't even pick up my own devices from another room in my home.

Welcome to Android Central! How far away is your nearest neighbor?

Someone passing your house with an iPhone will show up for a few seconds, as they come into range, then pass out of it. Cars passing by. Neighbors passing the room in their house closes to yours. BT shouldn't be good for more than a few feet through walls, but in clear air or through windows, it might work out to 10 meters (32 feet) or so.
