I hear what you're saying and I think that's definitely true of the photo and video AI, but the Assistant with Bard will definitely roll out to every phone running Assistant. Because all the work is done by the server, and Google needs to get as many people as possible using and improving Bard.

I think that AI is far more important than the photo and video AI tbh because it has wide ranging applications.

If Google has any sense you are totally correct. I guess we will see .

There is no doubt about that statement in my mind. As a former Windows Phone user, I had the best experiences because of the Windows integrations. Unfortunately, with the demise of the Windows Phone, I tried other Android phones, Samsung, Motorola, etc. and never was able to achieve that same level of comfortable integration That was, until I purchased my Pixel 7 Pro. Because it is 'pure' Android, well.... That speaks for itself.

I understand what you're getting since I've been an Android user for a very long time. I've used Samsung and Huawei and wish Google opened up to allow users with Android to allow them to use call screening as an example etc... I've used Pixel 6 pro and now upgraded to Pixel 8 pro. When I was using Pixel 6 pro I really enjoyed those extra features that only Pixel offers. Had I not bought their device I would never experienced it myself. So my point is Pixel ( Google ) doing that is to lure people to buy their devices and give them the full experience of how they think people will benefit. Google wants people to buy their phones for that reason if they provide those features to all Android phones why would anyone go out and buy a Pixel phone? Google is trying to separate itself from other companies that use Android since it's an open OS. If Apple for example opens up their device to all Android users to use their watch as an example people would be jumping to getting one of their watches hands down IMO but that will never happen. Because they want people to convert to an iPhone.

"Google is keeping secrets instead of sharing information, and it may make a better Pixel experience, but I'd really like to see what Qualcomm or Apple could do running Google's ML code on its own one-to-one version of Google's chip inside their own SoC (system on a chip)."

Why should Google do this? Ask Apple to do the same with FaceTime and/or iMessage and see where there gets you. Google wants people to purchase Pixels (not iPhones), same as Apple wants people to purchase iPhones and not Pixels or anyone else's phone for that matter.

The difference is that Apple doesn't run it's operating system as ostensibly open source. By trying to make a low profit low userbase product, the Pixel, better they are making several high profit, high userbase products, Android and search most notably, worse. I don't have an MBE (although from what I've seen getting one would take 15 minutes), but that seems like a bad business move to me.
