i've had my phone since launch and i've tried out various apps since. i've now rooted (my first root) and downloaded root explorer and i noticed my SD card is full of a bunch of random old folders of apps i don't use anymore. can i reformat my SD card to get the bare minimum? will i need to save anything specific so as to not screw anything up (the ROM, clockwork, etc)?

Personally, I'd recommend just removing stuff you know you don't need. I would not reformat it... you don't need to, but if you really want to I'd backup Everything to my PC first... just create a SDCard folder on your PC and make a copy of everything... clockwork is something you should never delete... you could clean out some old backup versions from time to time, but I'd never delete the entire thing... ROM's can always be downloaded again, and most get old.

What fatboy said, but all in all you can reformat it without any issues if you don't mind losing anything.
