Phone is locked up

I have been running Gingeritis 3D for quite awhile without issue. Pressed the power button on my phone this afternoon and the screen wouldn't come on. Did a battery pull and powered up again. After home screen loaded, Screen went off. Pressed the power button, nothing. Another battery pull and this time when the home screen came up, it stayed on and never went off and phone was locked up. What should I do first in trying to recover this? Boot to recovery? Cache wipe? Appreciate any advice.

Panicked too soon. Booted recovery and wiped cache and davlik and restarted phone and all is well again.
