Anyone notice any difference in the WIFI between MR2 and MR2.5?

I'm currently running MR2 with BAMF Remix 2.1, and the wifi performance is pretty lousy. It takes quite a while to connect, and it seems to disconnect when the screen times out (and yes, I have the timeout set to "never"). Causes my battery to drain twice as fast on standby as the old Froyo radios did...well, that may be part of the cause for that anyway...

I was thinking of flashing the MR2.5 radio, but wasn't sure if it's any better. Seemed to be very mixed results overall between the 2 radios, so I guess I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

Anyone have a general preference over these two radios based on use, for wifi or 3G/4G? If it matters, in the DC/Baltimore region most of the time.

Running 2.1REMIX with the MR2.5, and I love it. I get a better 4G signal, lock on GPS instantly, and have had noooooo problems with my wifi.....it is worth a try, flash it and see how you like it. If not flash back to MR2. Cheers.

If you don't mind my asking, what do you have your CPU settings set to?

I've considered raising my minimum frequency to see if that helps the wifi stay active.

lately i keep my min at 368 and my max at 1.2, using interactivex governor, imo's latest leanKernel, with bamf sense 3.0 rc 3.

i keep the min up a little bit bc i regularly use gps/nav+music with the screen off.

Thanks--that's basically exactly how I just set mine up. I'll see if that works better.

I've already noticed in the past 20 or so minutes that my wifi indicator is no longer "coming back to life" when I wake the screen, so it appears to be staying connected better...too short a sample to make a determination though.

I am set at normal through speedtweak.sh which is 1.4GHz max and 245MHz Min. I am using the interactivex gov. and running Imo's 3.3.8GB Test Kernal.

I am running 2.1 gingerRemix too with the 2.5 radio, but even with the 2.0 radio I had no issues with Wifi at all. If i ever did have wifi issues it was with the actual router itself. and I must say that since I flash MR2.5 my battery and signal are MUCH better now... I hope you can get you wifi issues worked out dude. goodluck ;)

My settings are 245-1.22 with smartass or interactive X.. but i do seem to get a little better battery with smart ass... I also am running the stock kernel . Does anyone have a link to more kernels to choose from and perhaps some advice on what kernels is better to run with this ROM... Thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks. Definitely not a major issue, more an annoyance. We'll see, hopefully I find my perfect settings (since no 2 Thunderbolts seem to behave the same!)

Not to many options when it comes to kernels, because HTC hasn't released the source code for the GB Sense kernel yet. Your best option is to keep up with this:
[GB Kernel] leanKernel: minimalistic kernel (3.3.8GBtest 6/27/11, v3.1.6cm7 6/17/11) - xda-developers

according to the XDA site you led me to:

SENSE FAQ

Wifi is not working - 1) first make sure you flash kernel via CWR, not kernel manager or rom manager, 2) delete all files in /data/misc/wifi and reboot.
Why is GB sense kernel not as stable as your other kernels? - HTC has not released source code for GB Sense kernel yet. What I've done is frankensteinize kernel code from IncredibleS and DesireHD, then added my own mods to get the kernel to run on GB Sense. I get the feeling HTC will release source code before I finish making the kernel completely stable because there's still so much development to be done.
Why is my battery draining so quickly? - still working on it. For now let it at least charge once all the way, wipe batt stats and reboot. Repeat that whole process at least once.
Why is quadrant score so low? - Don't run quadrant, run Linpack and Nemark. Quadrant seems to be all over the place.
'X' is not working - Flash the stock kernel on the OP and confirm that 'X' works? If so, let me know. If not, then it's probably not meant to be!

maybe this will help :)

I just read alot about the Dream kernel and I am going to give this a shot :)

Thanks -- but I read that and it's not my problem.

Thinking I may go back to Froyo...and the awesome battery life.

Re: MR2 vs. MR2.5 radio -- WIFI issues

Did you flash MR2.5 yet?

Yup...no changes.

It bugs me because I pretty much have to use wifi at my office (bad signal in the building), and since installing 2.1, my apps and email messages and such just aren't updating until I turn the screen on, apparently because the wifi goes out when the screen shuts off...which is also killing the battery.

Re: MR2 vs. MR2.5 radio -- WIFI issues

You have the wifi always on checked in Settings?

sorry 2.5 and the battery life aren't doing it for you. Maybe if you try a more bare bones GB rom you could get some more juice out of it?...

No big deal really. I was forced to do a reinstall because I current ROM had crashed, so I figured I'd give GB a shot.

Really like the Sense 3.0 lockscreen and a few other elements, but to be honest, I was so happy with BAMF Remix 1.7 that I just finished flashing my phone back to v. 1.8.

I'm pretty confident that once an office release of GB is available for the TB (along with the source code for the kernel), things will start to look up in that dept and we'll see some really awesome builds, but for now I'm perfectly satisfied with the BAMF Froyo Roms.

Thanks to everyone that replied.

Re: MR2 vs. MR2.5 radio -- WIFI issues

The kernel source will be huge.
So I tried sense3.0 yesterday but I just don't like the rosie bar, Not that It matter cuz I have ADW but I am giong to stick to 2.1 for a time, it is running smooth and with the new radio, I am getting ALOT better 4g coverage too....

Re: MR2 vs. MR2.5 radio -- WIFI issues

I've had this wifi shutting off during screen timeout too. It's a little irritating now, but my battery life on 3g is ok for now. How come I haven't seen any developers address this issue? Seems that any threads about this on androidcentral and xda seem to die quickly without much acknowledgment.

Probably because there's not much they can do, especially if it's a radio issue.

I thought radios just control 3g/4g data, not wifi power? I figured this was more of a kernel issue since people are getting this prob on mr2 and mr2.5

It could be kernel related, but the radio also handles wifi and gps data transmission.
