Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
I've read that people who root their device can turn the sound off. I prefer to wait for the next update that will hopefully address this by giving us an option to toggle that annoying sound especially when you are in the middle of an office when it reboots.
What do you expect from a device that was probably designed by Chinese kids and assembled by 6 year olds
Then again there are always people who actually like it. They say it pisses off the iphone and Blackberry owners when their Charge starts up

Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
There won't be a toggle to turn it on or off... Like the poster above said, you can turn your system volume down or completely off, which will mute the sound, but the animation will still play. Also, if your general volume is turned all the way down, the sound will not play on start up

Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
Every phone has a boot animation that can't be turned on or off...

Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
if you have the sound off (set to vibrate), it won't make the power up/down sound...

Download "Silent Boot" from the market. Works for me.

Wow, thanks for this tip.
Just installed this free Silent Boot program and first time I resarted it was silent!
Sweeet. . . always hated that dumb embarrasing opening sound with the DROIDDDDD and then breaking glass sound. It's so childish.
Maybe gamers like it, but I'm not 8 years old.
When I used to remember to turn volume down BEFORE I shut it off at night I never remember to turn it up again and then miss morning calls.
I had tried that secret cade thing months ago, but it did nothing on my Charge.
Try Silent Boot . . . worked for me! - 12-07-2011, 08:28 PM #18

Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
Has anyone tried the instructions from the aforementioned link since the update? I tried it and it doesn't seem to work. I can get it to access the "hidden menu". But when I type the string to access the Audio menu (*#28346#) nothing happens. the numbers go away..but no menu appears. Here is a quote of the instructions:
There is no menu as a result of the command..so what it means by "go to situation" I have no idea. Has anyone else had any luck?Audio Tuning
*#28346#
Several audio tuning menus.
I've only tested the two items below:
To silence boot and shutdown audio go to Situation/BOOTSOUND and turn the values to 0. I've tested and confirmed this works.
PS. Yes there are times when "DROOOOOIIIDD-crashbangcrackle" is not a good thing to have happen. This earblasting nonsense has no place in a professional environment.Last edited by starbuckk; 12-07-2011 at 11:46 PM.

Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
This doesn't work with GB. There was a post in the original Dialing String... thread that mentioned this. I can verify that it's true, because it worked for me on 2.2, but I have the same results as above since the update. Silent Boot app took care of the Startup sound.

Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
"Silent Boot" does not work for me on my VzW Droid Razr -- unless I have the settings wrong. I still get the "DROOOOOID" and the sound of breaking glass.
Should I have only the top boxed checked? (Frankly, I've tried with every combination of checked boxes and it still doesn't work.) Thoughts?Verizon Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx - 12-09-2011, 03:04 PM #23
Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
Silent boot does seem to work on an intentional restart. So the question is what about those odd spontaneous restarts I've been known to see? If it works for those its perfect. I've had a few of them though fortunately not too many.

Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
There is an app, Silent Boot, that sometimes works. It does not seem to work when there is a battery change, but otherwise usually works. Android Assistant also seems to have this feature.

Re: Stop the annoying startup sound and video
I found Silent Boot worked fine for me before the GB update. Now I have to leave compatibilty mode checked off and it works again for restarts like when you hold the side button and choose restart.
It does not work for me after a battery pull. But if you know are going to pull the battery, then lower the volume key to vibrate "before" you pull the battery!
The only issue with keeping the compatibility checked off is there is a constant grey circle at the top left of your screen like a program notification update. I've searched and no one has any clue what compatibility mode even means.
Hopefully, Silent Boot's developer will update a fix for GB now. But it does work on the Charge as it is. I found that that thread about secret codes never worked for me even brefore the GB update.Last edited by expidia; 12-11-2011 at 01:05 PM.
