Funny I went into the fascinate section looking for how updates went and how long they took and I came upon a thread asking how they are with updates

http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate/22830-samsung-updates.html

This thread is from almost 14 months ago and the replies look like they were copy and pasted into this forum. Things like Samsung has learned and it will be different with this phone.

In that thread someone mentioned the galaxy s phones getting froyo in august, then September, and I think the fascinate finally got it 9 months or more later. With that said I think we have a long road ahead of us.

I'm currently running the gummycharged 2.0 rom based on 2.2 and it is amazing.

makes the wait for an official gingerbread release a lot easier.

Am I the only one that could careless about a gingerbread update? I don't see what all the Hype is about but in regards to what the OP wrote, Samsung is known for long lead times on updates.

really? Another of these threads? Can't you just go find the one from last month and post rehashed crap and/or speculation and/or complaints in that one?

No one forced you to read it.....go pound sand.

Problem with that is other people might already be using Skype and not willing to switch or it doesn't work good on the other end

I also came from using gb on my dx and it was just smoother. Not a deal breaker but once you had a taste you know what your missing.

Unlike like some, when I see a new thread, I hold out hopes that something new has come through the pipe.

Rehashed crap should be kept with rehashed crap. The new button should be used for actual new items. Is the search button so hard to find?

EDIT: wow did a quick look and you don't even have to go to the search button. There is another "WHAR GB" thread halfway down the page

And for every thread that is a rehash there is a person, like you, that has to post *****ing and moaning about it.

Bottom line, if you don't like it move on and let this thread fade away. But if you want to keep posting by all means go ahead and keep it alive.

Screw Gingerbread. Waiting for the Droid Prime with ICS.

In all seriousness, I've dabbled with GB on both the Charge & Fascinate. On all occasions I've gone back to Froyo.

As others have said, Gummy 2.0 is very fast. Give it a try.

I am getting ready to try another rom. I tried gummy on a couple occasions in the past and I think I am going to either try 2.0 next or a TB rom, though I am not sure if the gb roms are ready for prime time.

since we have moved from the *****ing and onto something more, the GB roms are really good. I havent tried the last one, but the ones before were nice. Not many bugs and really stable. The thing with them is that you have to jump through some hoops if you decide to go back to froyo.

GC 2.0 is my current. Only had it a day or so but no real serious complaints.

lol, that really is funny :) I recently had back surgery so i am all hopped up on stuff and just laid up in bed so my sense of humor might be off. :)

That was the reason now that you mention it. I read it was not as easy as just flashing a rom to get back.

I feel sorry for all of you and the update issues. I had the charge for a week and had issues of lag. I switched to the TB for not only lag issues but for sense also. I can't wait for Prime to come because the devs will be all over it. Roms by te pages would be sweet. Good luck with the lack of updates.

Considering we have a number of GB leaks, with working Gummy ROM's based on all of them, and the latest EP1Q flies and is very stable, I don't know why everyone thinks it will take forever to see official GB OTA. Granted, it should be out by now, considering how many other devices have it, but its not like Samsung would make a fully functional GB update and then just sit on it for 6 months. If you want GB, you can run it already. I too find its just a little quicker and smoother, and have been on various Gummy GBE versions for weeks now as my daily ROM with minimal issues.

There's also alot of progress with the AOSP builds, CM7 and OMFGB. The main reason I'm excited for the GB OTA is that it means Sammy will release the source soon after, benefitting the AOSP teams a great deal, and hopefully allowing them to get everything working on an MTD kernel.

Funny, I switched FROM the thunderbolt and feel it was a better move for me. For every person you find switched from the charge to the TB you will find just as many that switched from the TB to the charge and are happy.

We didn't get Froyo until early March if I remember right, and before anyone jumps in here and blames the carriers I will point out that even the original (European version) of the Galaxy S didn't get it until early January. So while the carriers no doubt contributed to the delay with their approval process, the bulk of the delay was clearly Samsung.

The update process was also fought with issues (many of us had to do factory data resets before or after the upgrade) and then had issues with the radio for I believe that upgrade and the one MR after it.

I'll also point out that the Fascinate SHOULD HAVE launched with Froyo just as the Charge SHOULD HAVE launched with Gingerbread. Yes you area all going to have a LONG wait :(

EDIT: and the existence of several leaks and custom roms based upon them makes no difference, the same thing happened with the Fascinate.

My Froyo is fast enough. But seriously, I'f you've got enough time to measure the speed difference, then you've got too much time on your hands. Go do something constructive.

Well as you probably saw, Thunderbolt and Incredible getting gingerbread in September. It is getting frustrating coming from a phone that had gingerbread and being stuck on froyo with the Charge while everyone else is moving on. Come on Samsung and Verizon, get your s&#t together!
