new to android and DNA - need help
Trying to copy a ringtone mp3 into /system/media/audio/notifications, using Astro File Manager. Fails to write file. All of the pre-loaded ringtones are stored under system.
Do I need to root this phone to copy ringtones and like files?
Also, I see a directory structure under sdcard, which has directories for ringtones, notifications... I can copy a file there, but cant see the mp3 in the Sounds menu. What is the purpose of this directory structure if the phone doesnt see the mp3 I added.
Sorry, really confused on how to simply copy a file so that I can add a ringtone.
thanks

You don't need to copy the mp3 a specific folder - anywhere on the phone will do.
Go to Settings -> Sound -> Phone ringtone
There is an "Add" button in the top right corner. Press that and you should be able to add any mp3 found on your phone as a ringtone.

I see the ADD + from the Ringtones menu, but I dont see anything to add once I click on it. There is no way to browse to select anything else. I dont see the ADD + in the Notifications menu.

Yeah, if you are new to Android it will take you a few days of playing to figure stuff out.
Most of the advance settings for apps are hiding away in the 'menu' (the icon looks like 3 vertical dots).
Also, be aware that HTC Android phones have a custom skin called Sense+ (in your case) running on top of Android. The look and feel of Sense+ is different to stock / standard Android, but mostly everything still works the same way.

ok, figured it out. file was renamed for some reason and not seen by the OS.
