Wake on notification?

My old HTC Thunderbolt used to wake the screen when a notification was received (text, alert, etc.). The DNA doesn't seem to do that - or I can't find the setting to make it do that. I do get sound notifications and it does flash (light on the back cover), but I would like to be able to glance over at the phone when it is sitting on my desk to see what the notification was as opposed to having to wake the phone myself using the power button.

I'm not sure about a general setting that works for all apps, but I know that with handcent you can go into Settings and Notifications and set it to turn on your phone and show you the message. When I get done with this job, I'll check into a general one.
