This is prob the update vZ support was discussing with me last week, HTC had contacted them 1/17 saying they are releasing a update that includes a wifi fix (so they said) but prob others as well such as the sim card issue
For the love of god, this better add the menu button functionality. (Engadget thinks it will because of the 'enhanced recent apps' wording)

I just hopes it fixes that pesky Wi-Fi issues....only thing I've seen that ticks me off on my phone.

Yikes! Nothing mentioned here about the notorious sim card issue.Quote:

I like how the "Update Instructions" includes this statement; "If the system update fails to install, you will get an error screen. However, this only means the software did not install
properly. Remove and re-insert the battery and power the device back on."
Hmm... as much as Verizon seems to be sticklers for UAT and QA of software, they obviously don't with their own material.
There's also a thunderbolt screenshot.Quote:

They probably won't admit it, but still fix it.Quote:

Seems this will address the atrocious BlueTooth issues. Hope it fixes the SIM too.
If so, I'll be happy.....

If I am rooted stock will an OTA unroot me?
Since software update only works in CDMA mode (apparently), how will GSM folks go about updating ??
Thanks.
I think the general rule is if you are rooted, do not accept any OTA update.Quote:

I don't know if it will unroot you, but I believe it will cause problems, so I wouldn't accept it.

Pretty glad that they are launching an update. Pretty timely too, all things considered.
So I was just thinking about rooting when this announcement of an update came out. Any opinions if it makes more sense to go ahead and root now, or wait and root after the update?
I'd wait until after. Might as well take advantage of the little fixes this OTA is promising.

May sound like a stupid question, but how do I access the update tomorrow? This is my first higher end android device and I've never had to do a software update. Will it be pushed to my device or will I have to manually update it via the computer?

Not a dumb question at all.Quote:

2 ways essentailly.
1) If you go into settings, scroll down to the bottom and tap on "Software Update", and tap on "Check Now," the phone will check for an update and grab it if it's available. Keep in mind that they are usually rolled out gradually, so your device may not get it on day 1.
2) I am pretty sure that, eventually, the device will notify you that you have an update available and prompt you to download it.
No computer required :)
I believe if you root you'd not be notified of the update..when I rooted a while back there was discussion of this, I've since returned to stock.Quote:

Maybe a sign of the imminent update? I manually checked my non-rooted, stock phone for an update and it's hanging at "Checking for new Software available now." I don't get a message saying no updates are available nor do I get an update. Hopefully it comes thru soon.
I just checked a few times, first two times said no update available third and on just hung at checking.
