Phone starts charging then stops?

I've had numerous problems with this phone so far. Now, however the problem is that when I charge it using my computer, the orange charging light comes on for about 10 seconds then turns off. Using the outlet charger which connects to the USB portion of the charger, I can't get the orange light to come on at all.

Is this a phone or charger issue? I'd really like to solve this without getting a new phone.

You have a bad micro-usb port. You will need to get a replacement. Its a known issue.
