i set mine as CDMA so it doesn't have to check. when i travel, i'll have it strictly on GSM.

it shouldn't make much of a difference though :)

hmm. in theory that would help battery life when in a low signal area.

so setting it to CDMA only wouldn't have any disadvantages or change the user experience negatively

Can only be CDMA. The SIM card is used only traveling outside the United States. It isn't a GSM device. Only T-Mobile and AT&T are GSM carriers
