Gmail Not Syncing

Hey guys,

I got my incredible about a week ago and I absolutely love it. I am coming from a Blackberry curve 8330... and the difference in functionality is amazing. I'm still getting used to the keyboard, but the speech-to-text is wicked.

Anyway, my Gmail is not syncing properly... sometimes it syncs within minutes, but most of the time it takes hours and then all of a sudden I have 5 e-mails and the earliest one was sent 2 hours ago. WHy is it taking so long to refresh/sync? Sometimes I have to manually refresh.

I keep the app running in the background AND I have checked every single setting I can find for a refresh function.

I don't think it's my Gmail account because on my Blackberry it synced within seconds, and I haven't changed any Gmail settings so it should be fine.

Any suggestions?

Check a couple of things....

Menu > Settings > Accounts and Sync > make sure the google account for your gmail is set to auto-sync and that auto-sync is turned on.

Click on the account name and make sure "Sync Gmail" is checked for that account.

Also, does it work fine if you do it manually?

-Auto-sync turned on
-Syncing gmail has the green circle with arrows thingy next to it
---within that account, all 3 boxes are checked: sync calendar, contacts, and gmail.

Under them, they all say "Wed, Jun 2, 2010 11:41pm" which is the last time I manually refreshed my gmail account.

And yes, if I manually refresh it shows all new e-mails.

Same thing happened to me Yesterday. Here's what I found

So, to get my "connection" back:

1) Go into the settings menu for the phone
2) Choose applications
3) Choose Manage Applications
4) Under Manage Applications set the Filter to ALL. Not sure why this isn't the default but c'est la vie.
5) Scroll down and choose GMail Storage
6) Tap the botton for Clear Data
7) Head on over into GMail and VOILA!

Fixed!

Thanks guys! Here's what I did, per dgalanter's recommendation:

-turned IMAP off (in Gmail settings)
-reset phone
-turned IMAP back on (in Gmail)
-reset phone

Now it takes a minute max to sync :)

woohoo... thanks again!

Did you go through this procedure (from previous posts)
