Is there a way to limit shown text history?

I don't know how vanilla Android handles this situation, but the Sense UI uses a different messaging program if I'm correct, and I noticed that the phone can come to a halt trying to load all the previous messages I've shared with someone. Is there a way to set the phone so that it only displays say, the last 5 texts? Right now it's displaying the last 650 or so...

I'm not sure of a way to limit the amount of texts that will display. I delete mine way before the count gets as high as yours just to keep the phone running as fast as possible.

I just wanted to post an update that 2.2 seems to have taken care of the problem. I think it limits each text window to the last 200 texts or so. Much smoother now, thanks guys!

2.2 doesn't default take care of the problem. At least it doesn't with mine.

Click messages, push the menu button, then check Delete Old Messages.

Now under that after you check that it will show up, "Text message limit." And you can select 200 per conversation or whatever.

You can also set it to 5.
