Incredible update: Need to unroot?

Hi guys. This may have been asked before so please let me know if it is answered in another thread.

I updated my phone not long ago using the VZ OTA Froyo 2.2 update and then rooted to get WIFI Tether access. Since then, there have been several OTA updates to come out and obviously I can't update since I'm rooted. My questions are:

1. Is it possible for me to upgrade to the latest VZ OTAs without losing Apps, Data, contacts, etc? I understand that I may have to unroot to do this. If that is the case, please provide additional info.

2. Can I update my phone without losing root access?

For your reference, here is my software info:

Why don't you just load a Rom with this update. Skyraider

Like Upstreammiami has said the easiest way to get these updates would be to flash a custom Rom that has all the updates. This way you don't have to unroot - update - root again. One of the best options you have if your rooted is being able to run all these different Rom with much better features then just stock. Look in the hacks sub forum here for list of Roms that are available.

Don't do it (!!!!), VZW admitted a MAJOR TYPO today in the update release notes and the November "UPDATE" will CAP your file attachment size through Email to 5Mb!!!!!

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I installed Rom Manager from the Market and loaded Virtuous Rom. I'm loving it! It's so clean and free of junk; I wish VZ could load Roms like that from the get go but I guess thats wishful thinking, right?

The Roms made by developers are all much better then the stock ones always have been and always will be.

I would have to agree. There are a LOT of options out there for different and specialized ROMs. Find what works best for you.
