3g connection issues

for the past few days i was having an issue getting my apps/email/market (anything that uses an internet connection) to tell me "no connection available" or "connection error" unless i was using wifi or i was lucky enough to need to use my connection when my 3g icon was on the screen, if it wasn't on the screen, no go. well after a few attempts at fixing it (swapped modems, kernels, reflashed rom like 5 times...lol) i put a few posts out to see what kind of help i could get.. after a suggestion from Landshark and this:

I was having an exact same problems as you over the weekend. Come to find out, there was no 3G icon on my status bar at all and no connection. I called verizon customer service and talked with 'Android specialist' (yeah.... don't ever do that). If you have an older verizon phone, get them to do the ESN swap on your account. what do you know, the 3G icon came back magically and everything works now (I was on ECLAIR) and ODINed UKB 2.0 no kernal and flashed 2.1 patch.

i broke down and called Big Red, figured what did i have to loose but some time out of my day..after all of 10min on the phone i did the ESN swap...and man i'm glad i did. Not only did it get my 3g working like it's supposed to again (after about 12hrs i've not had an issue yet) my download speeds and upload speeds went thru the roof compaired to what they were... so if you have an older fassy or having some issues with 3g, try this first. (kinda wish i did..lol)
(using speedtest app from market on closest server found)
before ESN reset: download speed 130kbps and upload speed 133kbps
after ESN reset : download speed 1910kbps and upload speed 558kbps
