So how long should this flash be? It's been about half an hour for me and it's still saying "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!".

Not a half hour, that's for sure. When you try again, perhaps use a slightly less ancient version of android, too.there are several great gingerbread roms to choose from

It was my USB cable. I switched to another one and all is good. I need to update to ed05 since my phone was on ed04. After the fix, it allowed me to update to gingerbread. Thanks for the reply.

I think you want GB, not Froyo at this point.
