Hello, I was always interested in rooting my phone, but I decided to wait until the proper OTA updates rolled out. I received 2.3.5 two days ago I am now willing to root the phone. I rooted my first fascinate when it was 2.1 easily, using a 1-click root. My problem is, how do I root the fascinate with 2.3.5 OS? Does it matter which method I use, or does 2.3.5 have it's own method of rooting? If you read this post, thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to help a android noob out . (Also, if you have any tips/apps to fully optimize the fascinates specifications, please, it would be appreciated!)

The easiest way to root your phone is to flash the superuser+busybox zip on your phone. You'll need to ODIN CWM on there after downloading the zip file to your SD card. Boot into recovery and install the zip. Reboot and you're rooted.

Will doing this erase my data.

Disregard my previous post. I don't know if it will or not. I was thinking of a different proceedure.

Using odin the flash cwm, then booting into cwm to flash superuser+busybox to root your phone WILL NOT wipe your data.

Hi traderricky59,

Full disclosure, I consider myself a noob, but I did just recently complete the process of flashing CWM via ODIN and rooting with CWM:

Here is a link to the Galaxy Forums with most of the materials you will need:

[HOW TO] Root Froyo or Gingerbread on Your Fascinate

I say most because you should not download from the CWM link on that page. johnsma22 helpfully explains that that version of CWM has issues creating nandroid backups. Download the cwm-recovery-ALL.tar that johnsma22 provides in post 18 of this thread.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/138426-trying-root-after-ota-gingerbread-update-2.html

That takes care of your materials. As for directions, make sure to read DroidXcon's #2 and #12 posts here (you should really read all of it, because it's all brilliant, but for your purposes right now, I'd say 2 and 12 will do):

http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/66762-tools-quick-links-please-read-post-1-before-posting-forum.html

Then read rjack22's #11 post in the same thread that I linked to above (Trying to root after OTA...).

Hopefully that helps. I take absolutely zero credit for any of the information and processes outlined above.

I'm very new to all of this as well...so new that post #9 was my first post containing links, so the possibility exists that I've posted incorrectly. Are you are unable to access the links I posted? Please elaborate.

Do you have to use Clockwork to root the fascinate when on 2.3.5 or is there the old skool method of running adb commands? ive attempted the adb commands and the zergling attack using SuperOneClick latest version however both have an error when they attempt to run the mount remount,rw command, states this operation is not permitted. any suggestions? I had clockwork installed before however i went to restore a backup i made of my stock config from VZW and it stopped the phone from booting, im assuming i should have done factory reset/data wipe and clear cache before i restore a backup?

thanks
