need help, first time phone owner new to all of this Rooting stuff

Im new to rooting and a little nervous, i have a verizon samsung fascinate and my build number is DI01 i would like to get up to at least ED01 (not sure if it goes higher). The phone is not activated because i live in canada, so downloading the software update from verizon is not an option. That's why im coming here for help. im very confused, there seems to be 100's of different programs getting linked. I just need someone who knows what they are doing to tell me " do this and download that".

**Note** i wont be getting a SD card till thursday so i wont be able to do anything untill then.
