Folks, I modified the Odin package that installs clockwork recovery so that it *should* work on any future versions without reflashing kernels, and without rooting your device.

This provides a nice way of rooting your device, because as long as you have the cwm update.zip on your sdcard (at the base) and this Odin flashed, you can root your device by merely installing ChainsDD's superuser package via clockwork recovery.

The Odin package:

ChainsDD's superuser
[APP] Superuser 2.3.6.1 - Now on the Market [2010-09-05] - xda-developers
(you want the ef version)

My modified ChainsDD superuser +busybox package

update.zip to use with clockwork (goes on base of sd card)

If this update.zip gives you trouble, please get it from the source. You will need to rename this file to update.zip.
http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-fascinate.zip

Simply flash the Odin, boot to recovery, apply update.zip and load the superuser package. Done and done. No rage exploit, no fighting with one click methods.

Or, if you are feeling adventurous, you can try Clockwork Recovery RED, which works 100 times better, but has not been heavily tested with non-voodoo installs. It should be ok though.

http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09_RED.tar.md5

This method requires ONLY this Odin method. You do not need update.zip unless using rom manager. Credit jt1134 and supercurio for Red cwm. Credit to squash/times-infinity for the idea :)

Note to Stock Users
I have found that the stock Samsung kernel is very sneaky and replaces clockwork on the next reboot...it seems to be most common with those who have updated using Verizon's OTA updates. Odin users usually do not see the issue and hence, was tough to track down.
So to alleviate this, please add an extra option to your list of things to do. On FIRST boot into clockwork recovery, please flash your appropriate kernel of choice. For simplicity, I have added a rather plain kernel (non-voodoo) for those who may want to flash their choice of kernel later. This must be done for those who have this problem, no matter if clockwork is red or green.

Now keep in mind this won't give you haptic feedback back, if you already flashed with the old cwmrecovery.tar. That will require a kernel flash of DJ05 or higher.

He doesn't have layers upon layers of corporate red tape to deal with.

Already dealt with the issue by installing another kernel, but thanks still.

Personally, I HATE green clockwork recovery. I am going to try some experiments tonight before bed and see if I can get red going, without converting anyone to voodoo.

times_infinity/squash from IRC gave me some great tips.

I flashed the kernel from this thread to fix the haptic feedback and bluetooth, they both work now. Now booting into clockwork recovery does not work. I boot to normal recovery and can not get to clockwork to back up my rom now. It booted fine until I applied the dl09 kernel, any ideas what I need to do to fix this.

Try going to rom manager and hitting the flash clockwork recovery. and also you can hit back up my rom from rom manager aswell

oh did you try the new update.zip that he mentions in the OP?

So use these directions to flash via odin,(but dont use the the DL09 or DI01 downloads on that page as they will bring you to stock)
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fas...sh-full-package-dl09-stock-di01-via-odin.html

But Use this file provided
The Odin package:
http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/CWMRecovery_DJ05_DL09.tar.md5

After you have flashed download this from the market
ChainsDD's superuser
[APP] Superuser 2.3.6.1 - Now on the Market [2010-09-05] - xda-developers
(you want the ef version)

After that is done, download this file and put it to the root of your SD card
My modified ChainsDD superuser +busybox package
http://adrynalyne.us/files/odin/su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip

Also download this and put to the root of your SD card
update.zip to use with clockwork (goes on base of sd card)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2056318/update.zip

Now once you have flashed odin (use link i posted to walk you through it) and you have downloaded everything and put the last to files to the base of your SD card.
Reboot into recovery>VOL up+VOL dwn+ power, you will see the samsung logo cycle twice, on the second time let go and press VOL dwn.

this will take you into Recovery , using the vol down button scroll to apply sdcard:update.zip

this will take you into a green recovery screen which is clockwork recovery.

From here using the vol keys scroll to install zip from SD card , use the power or back button to select.

scroll down till you see su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip again using the power or back button

then again scroll down and select yes, this will install the zip

once its down scroll down and select go back

then select reboot.

you should be done and rooted

Good luck

Question (just cause I'm curious). If you're rooted and wanted a custom ROM such as adrynalyne's latest for DL09, could you just use stock (blue) recovery if you renamed the file update.zip and placed it in /sdcard? What's the benefit of flashing CWM (red or green) besides more options and ability to use other than base of sdcard?

Or, if already rooted, simply download the latest rom and install via ROM manager from SD card.
