Discussion of the Fascinate root How-To

So I have to have the sd card mounted when I do this? Wish it would have said that in the guide. Anyways I open to view files and I try running START_ROOT.bat but the same problem is happening. "Testing if your device is connected. 'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file." When I hit the space bar the same thing happens.

Ok, sorry DreMan, I just went back to read all your posts so I could get a better idea of where we are at. What is your ultimate goal in rooting? Do you want to root so you can get Froyo? Or do you want to root to do other things, but still stay at stock Eclair?

EDIT- And sorry, no you don't have to have the sd card mounted when doing one click root. I was getting confused because this has kind of become a method not as many people use anymore.

I guess my ultimate goal is to probably get superclean to remove bloatware, get Froyo to use flash player, and eventually get themes and other goodies when I'm better at this whole thing. It was my understanding that the one click root was the easiest to root and is the first step. I'm trying to keep it simple so I don't brick my phone.

Well if you want simple, DroidXcon has put together some all-in-one packages you flash though ODIN and with a few simple steps you will be rooted, have the latest version of superclean (which is Froyo), and clockworkmod recovery (cwm) to flash themes and other goodies. If you want to try this we can move this discussion over to that thread http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...tom-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-10-a.html and we will have your data backed up, and the whole process finished in probably less than half an hour.

That would be great. Anything to get this process actually started =) I guess I'll start the guide. Thank you again for all your help. I probably would have given up by now.

Nah, don't ever give up. There's always a solution or work around. When I first tried rooting I almost gave up and threw my phone out the window. I am so glad I didn't. Go ahead and start reading DroidXcon's thread, and before you actually start on it, post in that thread and we'll all help you back up your data and give you any help you need in getting through the process. DroidXcon has done a great job of laying out the instructions step by step, and if you take your time and make sure to read each step carefully, you should be fine.

Hi All,
Just got my first smartphone - Samsung Fascinate, and of course I want to mess with it. Where on androidcentral do I find the software to root my new toy?

I've been told that if I screw it up somehow, I just need to do a 'Factory data reset' to bring things back to their virgin state.

Also, is there any way to allow me to not have to unlock my phone every time the display turns off?

Looks like a great site! Hope this is the right place for this message.

Follow the steps in this thread in order to root your phone:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...irst-time-rooting-walk-through-4-28-11-a.html

Of course if you are also looking to add a custom ROM onto your phone you should look at just learning how to flash the custom ROM onto your phone as all the custom ROMs come with root. And while you are stock you will have to unlock the phone every time. Community ROM has a feature included that allows you to disable the lockscreen.

hey :) am new to this all just got a new samsung fascinate 3days ago n now am tryna root it, im using the one touch thing but i keep getting this error at the end.......it says its successfully exploited but then it says "mount:operation not permitted" n then nothing after that seems to work then it restarts the fone...what should i do?? plz help....

I'd start with reading Landshark's post right above yours. Either follow the directions in the link he provided or check the other stickies for ROMs that you could ODIN which will most likely root your phone during installation. Best advice I can give is to read as much as you can. Take is slow and be certain you know what are doing and you are using the most up to date info possible.

* I know that sucks - I hate being told to "search" or "read" when I ask a question like this myself, but I really think it's worth reading what you can because in these threads you can see and avoid mistakes others made and be prepared in case something goes terribly wrong.

To be honest I think the easiest way to get your initial root done is to use an Odin package (it's what I started with). You just have to be careful and follow instructions perfectly or you could really bork your phone. As a first step you could try:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...tom-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-25-a.html (which again Landshark posted on this page - in fact look for Landsharks posts wherever you go and it'll usually have the info you need ;) )

or something like this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242747 Just be sure to read up on the risks and mistakes others made and be cautious.

Forget one click rooting or any methods like that. Follow the instructions by killahamsammich in post #2 of this thread:

His link for the CWM file is dead, so use this CWM:
