"Tethering" vs 3g Hotspot under Settings

Im rooted, running EB01 and just stumbled across the "Tethering" option under Settings > Wireless & Network. I know Verizon wants me to pay $XX for 3G Mobile Hotspot and it asks me to sign up when I select it but I dont get the same message when I activate the Tethering through USB. I have PDAnet and Wireless Tether for root but I tried this new feature for a split second and it really works well. Can anyone tell me with certainty if this is a payed tether or not, I would really like to know.
