    Default Fascinate/ED05/GPS

SO it seems ever since I updated to ED05, my GPS has had issues. Cannot get a lock. Use GPS Status. Only when I force stop Maps, and turn off GPS, then back on and start GPS Status first will it sometimes get a lock. I need my GPS. Anyone else having similar problems? Still under my 1 year warranty with Verizon. Looking at possible replacement phones. Any suggestions. My wife has a Droid X2, but I havent really played with it.

Fascinate has always had spotty/intermittant GPS theres been many fixes but all in all its just a crap shoot.
I was on stock ED05 and my GPS seemed ok then flashed geewiz ED05 and its seems a little better....but still spotty/intermittant, my Nexus S 4G locks on and accurate seconds brfore my Fasinate...just something ya gotta get used too.

Use GPS status to calibrate your magnetic compass. The compass drifts, and I believe the phone has trouble reconciling the GPS info with the bad compass info. This fix has worked for lots of people. You may have to do it every couple of days if you are a heavy GPS user.

Let us know if this does or doesn't work for you.

The OP states "looking for replacement phones" but I should let you guys know that VZ is no longer offering the alternative phones to the Fascinate like they were (Charge, Inc2, X2) since ED05. I tried getting Charges yesterday to replace the 2 Fascinates on my line and between 2 local stores, and 3 reps at the national support line (1 being a supervisor), they all acted like their hands were tied and could only offer me replacement Fascinates.

I found if you turn on GPS and reboot, your GPS will lock within seconds. I know some kernels are working on a repair. But that will work.

I know enough to get into trouble, but not enough to get myself out of that trouble.

I called Verizon because the GPS was not working well on the refurbed Fascinate I just got with ED05. They told me there is a known GPS issue with ED05. They said they are working on a fix but as usual no time frame on it.

Again this seems to be hit or miss. I am running stock ED05 rooted, and I have not had a problem with my GPS not locking. I have also run two other ROMS in the past and no problem with them either. I think it is more of an issue with the phone itself and like I said, either hit or miss as to whether you got a "good" phone or not. I am one of the lucky ones I guess.

Instructions over at XDA on how to reset the GPS --> looks like it might fix a lot GPS problems people are having.

I haven't tried it yet, because I'm getting a GPS lock within 3 seconds with PWGB. While on CM7 it was taking anywhere from 45 seconds to never, depending on location and visibility of the sky. If I ever load a ROM that breaks GPS lock, this will be the first thing I will try.

Is there anywhere you can go to see what versions your stock Fascinate should be running at any given time? (What the newest update is)
