I'm getting the Samsung. They're both pretty comparable so I'm not going to get into a specs battle. For me, The Fascinate looks better and is smaller. Yes, I've held an Evo and it was just too big for me. Great for watching movies on, not for holding that brick to your ear. Again, just my opinion.

The only thing I fear is that because its running its own version of the Android OS that it may be way down the line for 2.2 support. And that because its going to be released around the same time as the Droid X and Droid 2 that more people will buy those phones which will lead to more people hacking those phones and opening up the development.

I'm in the same boat. I'm really confused. Think I will skip on both launch days. I want to test out both devices before I make the jump. Hoping AC hasa through review of X vs. Facinate.

Galaxy S will be a world phone, meaning that there will be plenty of hackers modding the device up. Supposedly released in every major modern economy.

I expect these 2 devices to receive root asap.

The INC suffered because of limited supply and US only device.

Still a tough call either way. I don't know which device to get either.

The specs on the Verizon variant haven't been released yet. So its a bit dumb to try to compare them yet. Plus the X isn't even out yet lol
    crap -> Droid Incredible (4/29/10) -> HTC Thunderbolt (4/9/11) -> Samsung Galaxy Nexus (4/1/2012)
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB metallic grey (6/17/11)

The post is speculative. We've seen video reviews of these devices. Well most of us who read the news articles from the multitude of Android sites.

I feel a comparison is valid at this stage even though device is still unreleased. We do have an idea for what the specs should be like on the Facinate. It shouldn't differentiate from the stock Galaxy S. Maybe no front facing camera for the facinate.

BTW I found your post insulting. Rather then bring relevance to the conversation, you decided to mock me and call me dumb. Not very friendly behavior.

If you have nothing to add to the discussion, besides direct insults, then please think twice before posting.

The new Motorola phones are probably going to have a digitally signed bootloader. That means that while they will likely be rooted, it is unlikely they will have their bootloaders cracked anytime soon.

So actually I think it is likely there will be a much more active modding culture with this phone vs the Droid X or Droid 2.

This may actually influence my decision. I hope TouchWiz on the GS doesn't suck. Also hope the icons aren't too iphoneish.

Thinking if I go with the facinate then I would need root asap.

Well I hope you guys are right.

They say this is supposed to come with Bing maps. Does that mean it wont have Google maps?

And Brett what do you think. Going from Droid to this?

I've seen varying versions of the Galaxy S floating around with gmail and maps preinstalled, even the Captivate for ATT.

As far as i know the Facinate will have Google Maps and Search preinstalled.

If, however, the Facinate has Bing preinstalled then it will heavily influence my decision. I require a device with the full Google experience out of the box.

battery life is suppose to be great on the Samsung Galaxy S. Heard early reports of a 2 day charge. I'm hoping it's easy root ro that search and maps will be downloadable. IF not, I stick my middle finger up to Samsung.

Battery seams to be pretty great....according to gmsarena:
as the phone should have, according to Samsung's official Galaxy S site.

Now that I see bing is the default, think I'm gonna pass. I'll go to a store and see if you can change it but bing instead of google is almost certainly a deal breaker. Why vzw why?

The Verizon Fascinate is definitely the homely stepchild of all the Galaxy S versions based on it's lackluster hardware specifications. All the other Galaxy S models (Epic, Captivate & Vibrant) come standard with 16GB of internal memory, yet the Verizon Fascinate only has 2GB of internal memory. Verizon + Samsung Fascinate = Fail!

Wrong!! Samsung Epic has only 1GB of ROM and out of that 512MB is RAM. So, take heart, verizon's version is still doing better...

Wrong. Fascinate and Epic come with LED flash, but not 16gb internal. The Vibrant and Captivate come with the 16gb and no LED flash.

Everyone is hating on the Fascinate a little too quickly. We get the LED flash that everyone was crying about before it was announced. So we lose internal memory, big deal. You get the 16gb card with it, and Froyo solves your app storage problem(if you had one and didn't root). It doesn't look like an elongated BB Storm like the captivate, and I for one could care less about a physical keyboard or a FFC.

Yes, it has Bing and all that, but it's an open platform and Google isn't going to let Verizon or any other carrier lock out its services. Go to the Android Market and download Google Maps and Services, make them default. Problem solved. If you want to go further, wait for root and delete the bloat.
