New - I'm lost!

Where do I find out the version that is on my phone? What is ROM? How do I update it?

I am not new to the smartphone thing, have a blackberry. But I am totally confused by this phone! So far I can answer a call! That is it. My email isn't working, I have been searching the forum for answers, but I'm lost!

Go to Settings --> About Phone. That will give you the info you are looking for. To update go to Settings --> About Phone --> System Updates. Select Check New. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned off first.

As far as e-mail issues, what is it doing (or not doing)?

Thank you so much! The phone prompted me to add my email, said it was successful and connected with my yahoo account. But when I touch the email screen it states the application email (process.com.andriod.email) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
