Things I miss about my BlackBerry Storm 2!
The BlackBerry Storm 2 is a great device and should not be under rated. Here is a list of things I will miss about my Storm 2:
Not in any particular order:
1) No less than 5 battery pulls per week.
2) BlackBerry Messenger.
3) The ability to easily send contact information from one BlackBerry to another.
4) Bedside mode. (Does the Samsung have that ability?)
5) Very powerful emailing/ messaging device.
6) Calendar and ability to easily add participants to an calendar event. (Does the Samsung have that ability?)
7) Magnet sensor which is activated / deactivated the screen as you place it in and out of the holster. (Does the Samsung have that ability?)
8) LED notification light on the front of the device. (Does the Samsung have that ability?)
Any thing I am missing here??? - 09-30-2010, 12:39 AM #2
The ability to keep you as a user (does Samsung have that ability?)

I'm confused. Why will you miss battery pulls? And if you can convince bb users to use Google Talk, the bbm heartache fades quickly.
Check out the app one nightstand for bedside mode. I haven't used it, but I have heard it mentioned

Just a touch of Sarcasm there...

I have had my Fascinate for ten days now. I have little regret leaving my BlackBerry.
However there are just a few things I truly miss from the BlackBerry.
As for waking up the screen on the Fascinate is there a way to disable the puzzle unlock screen. It seems it is just one unnecessary (and annoying) step as you have to press the power button to wake the screen then swipe the screen to access the home page. Why not just press the power button to wake the phone directly to the home page. One less step in the process seems smarter and faster. - 09-30-2010, 05:12 AM #5

I'm a former BB Storm user here and here are the things that I miss and don't miss:
Miss
Reliable Messaging: I have converted some to GTalk BUT it seems buggy on the Storm, Gtalk signs off and won't automatically sign on again. So unless the user is checking, they are unavailable to me. BBM didn't have this issue and we could transfer files, pictures, location, voice notes too.
Calendar: I used to be able forward meetings which could be accepted/rejected on my phone. Gmail doesn't handle meeting requests well and I find myself going to the gmail/calendarto web app on my desk to sync correctly to my phone. BB handles .ics meetings much better.
Don't Miss
HTML Rendering: This includes the abysmal browser and the inbox rendering of e-mails. Both are slow and bad.
Data Consumption: BB's are notorious for limiting data consumption so e-mails start out ridiculously truncated.
App Storage: Hardly any. The reason for so many battery pulls is to free up precious memory. I regularly managed apps within a 20MB footprint.
Overall though, I am very pleased with the sudden capabilities of my new device. - 09-30-2010, 12:22 PM #7
biggest thing I miss so far from the BB, is push... it was nice to get FB & email msgs instantly. now I gotta wait for the phone to check on intervals.

I just ordered a Fascinate to try out, moving on from my BB Curve so I as well am used to push, and I my biggest concern is e-mail. If I am using Gmail, will it go directly to my phone since it is an Android system, or will it only check on a pre-determine interval? Most days this is not a problem, but I am a swim coach who on meet days will need to be able to get e-mail notifications from parents ASAP.

gmail updates instantly and gives you a notification, but other email like yahoo checks on intervals

I'm not 100% sure but I think that if you sync yahoo with gmail via pop, you can get push yahoo out of the deal.

I am also a bbs2 vet, of which decided to go to the fascinate. I love the fact that BB has the best email set up manager. I can get my yahoo and gmail accounts to work but I have a google apps email account that I cant seem to work. I have a domain from google apps. How can I make it work? I am only 2 days into owning the fascinate.
I do like it so far. So much more you can do with this phone. but I do miss the organized, easy to see, easy to read, and easy to understand email client of bb... thats what I miss most. That and also the clicking... but I can deal with the touch screen. - 10-02-2010, 05:11 AM #13

I bailed on a Storm I 16 hours ago - I miss BBM groups only... Everything else - slow boot time, battery pulls, memory leaks, speed dial lock ups, sloppy OS construction, sync issues, double tap zoom to slowww response and.. pay for almost all apps.. will NOT be missed (no tears).

why would any person miss that joke of a phone. I had the storm one, and god let me tell you, I feel like I've been let out of prison by becoming the owner of a android phone. Sure, there for the first week I went through the, "oh I miss this and I miss that on my blackberry" but man...give it time, and I promise you, your gonna be going on one hell of a ride when you give it a chance, your gonna ask yourself, why in the hell did I ever own a blackberry. Trust me Brother.
Look Ma, I gots me a smart phone

I'm coming from storm I and I dont miss it at all.in one word. It SUCKED! ! !
One thing that id like to see on SF is a dedicated button for the phone. Some times when someone calls I press the back button as a force of habbit to end the call and I go to the home screen instead. Then I try desperatelty to find a way to actually end the call.... another is a spell check. do we have one here? I'm pretty sure I made a few errors just now. - 10-03-2010, 04:35 PM #19
i miss not being able to send a MMS with picture and sound....for some reason, android will only allow you to do one or the other, but you can not combine both on the same message.

I had a storm 1 so I really like the fascinate. The only thing I miss is on the calendar on the storm I could tap on phone numbers on appointments and it would pal e the call. The fasciate doesn't do this.

but you could always have your other emails forwarded to gmail and set up gmail to send from that address.
At work we use pop3, so I just have it forwarded to gmail and when I reply nobody knows that it is coming from my gmail acct. I don't even have my other email addy's on my phone. They all go through gmail. - 10-04-2010, 04:10 PM #22
I miss being able to copy and paste in Yahoo Messenger. I get a lot of messages in different languages and with my blackberry YM app, I could copy the message and use an online translation software to translate. I could do the same in reverse to send a message in a different language.
Now I'm left trying to remember exactly what is written and type in a translation app on my new Fascinate. It would be nice if there was a plugin for translation or copy-n-pasteLast edited by tkarig; 10-05-2010 at 10:41 AM. Reason: spelling error LOL

HA ha seems like everyone got rid of their Storms! I just got my Fascinate 3 days ago and the only thing I miss is that front blinking notification LED, and the push messages. Loving this phone so far.

As phone administrator for a small business I can tell you the frustration level switching to this phone from the Storm I was outrageously low. No questions about missing icons (Browser, email, and odd apps popping up, in their place, lost sync profiles, required Desktop Manager... blah, blah..
6 Storms are now sitting dead on my desk.. RIP - 10-05-2010, 09:25 AM #25
Well I had a Storm and now have a facinate. What do I miss about it? Absolutely nothing. The Facinate is a great phone with Android it's FUN. Never going back. Hey your BB is your Fathers cell phone. Come on up to the 21st Century with Android.
