thats great guys, thank you.
his phone got bricked in the process of an experiment. lol. its a risk we all take. but he takes more than his fair share of risks on others behalf. - 04-21-2011, 12:26 PM #5
No joke l have been thinking this thread is loooong overdue. The man deserves it, regardless if he never makes another ODIN package ever again..(i say this squirming)..but seriously I hope he has another Fascinate soon..

I gave $5. I'm new 'round these AC parts, but it's been a wonderful place to learn and read, and I love my Fascinate. I'd give more, but my 2 year old demands food and drink and clothes and diapers...he's a bit needy.

This seems really strange. Why doesn't he get a job? Are we going to pay his monthly bill too?

If he has a job and cannot afford a phone maybe he needs to re prioritize a bit. I'm all for charity, and if he kid needed food, I'd help. But for a smartphone?
I make 8 bucks an hour and barely get by but I can afford my own phone. Just seems in poor taste to ask for donations for a phone. Give the money to needy families.
You made this public and I will comment as I'd like. Can he sell his Thunderbolt?Last edited by Chrisy; 04-21-2011 at 01:15 PM.

time = money.
he devotes alot of his time for something that helps alot of people.. thats like going into his odin thread and posting "this is strange, you going to use their phones for them also?" or something along those lines.
I don't see it as wierd to donate a few bucks to a developer.
edit: obv people who make 8 bucks an hour should not be donating... - 04-21-2011, 12:52 PM #14
I can see if he's running a business. That makes sense then. This is just asking for charity...for a phone.
Like I said, if he needed food, I can help him get help with that. I keep my bills lows so I can afford my lifestyle and help if needed. But, this is just tacky. - 04-21-2011, 12:52 PM

then dont give. he has helped countless people. no one is making you do anythin. its an expensive phone to replace. he spends hours working on others behalf. if you dont want to give, then dont. times are tough, if you cant give, or dont want to, then thats fine, and noone will think less of you for it.

Just donated on the link you posted gunner. Yes, droidXcon has been so invaluable to the Fascinate community. With all the guidance he has given, it's allowed me to really know my phone a whole lot better and to get my feet wet with rooting and ROM flashing. You guys always rock and I hope that even the little bit I was able to give goes a long ways into helping you out buddy.

Good luck to him. I hope he's ok.
Oh and I wasn't trying to be mean. I clicked on the thread because of the title because it made it seem like he needed real help. Food or medical bills or the like. Just surprised me is all. I was ready to help if it was a basic need.Last edited by Chrisy; 04-21-2011 at 01:12 PM.

Thanks for stating that for me Gunner, I couldn't have worded it better. The fact is that droidXcon was basically a guinea pig for all of us pansies (including me) who wouldn't do the testing it took to make sure that a lot of these ROMs would not cause widespread bricking of phones. Remember, he and other folks in the community took a chance on voiding their warranties to help us have better experiences with our phones when either the manufacturer or the carrier were not providing that to us. We all take chances when we root and install software/firmware that isn't authorized by the OEM/Carrier, so the devs take a lot of that responsibility on themselves. You don't need to give anything to the person (heck, most of the time when these folks cook up a delicious ROM for us, they don't ask for anything in return) but we should help a little if we can. I'm just thinking that if people complain about this, the next set of Superclean ROMs or the next Cyanogenmod that comes out, the devs should charge like $5 for it, and to be honest with you, I'm okay paying that. Great job fellas!

Thanks for posting this. Danny has been an invaluable help and he totally deserves the donations. My phone kicks ****, mainly because he (and others of you, too!) told me exactly what to do. I wholly support donating to this cause. I'm totally reward driven
For those who agree that rewards should be earned...
Danny has more than earned it! - 04-21-2011, 01:15 PM #22
Shaking my head........
With all the things going on in the world today, it really ticks me off to no end when people lash out and it is totally uncalled for. Alot of us, Im tempted to say all of us,at one time or another, on the Fascinate forums have truly benefited from Droidxcons knowledge, help, patience, and guidance. Gunner took the intiative to just throw it out there that if we all donated we could hopefully get an amount that would allow for a replacement Fascinate. With the lack of help from Verizon and Samsung, he and the dev community here are all we have left to help us explore our phones and to utilize them to the full potential. Without a fascinate, he is like a carpenter without tools, a teacher without books, and so on and so forth.
This is everyones forum, I understand and respect that. I respect peoples priorities and choices. With that said, please respect those who work hard, enjoy this forum, and want to donate so they can play even harder on their Fascinate. And one last thing, PLEASE, dont throw comments out about lack of job and where YOU feel money should really be donated. I could care less if this wonderful dev community were the seven dwarfs behind the screen names. We all have a common link here, our fascinates and fascination for them(smile, adjusting pocket protector). They are respectful and helpful to us and they deserve that same respect in return.
Ok Im done venting about this, time to go get rid of this Verizon Froyo and bathe in some SUPAH CLEAN!!! Thanks to you all!!!!!! - 04-21-2011, 01:16 PM #23
Gunner I copied and pasted the OP over on his ODIN Package Sticky...Was just going to linkback, but didn't think people would want to read through this thread, which unfortunately was half filled with a thunderbolter in the Fascinate forums who doesn't feel this is necessary....still wondering about that..
- 04-21-2011, 01:19 PM #24
Yeah, I wasn't lashing out. Like I said I clicked on the link because I was willing to give a few bucks if the kid needed food or medical or shelter.
Not a phone. Just my opinion, like you all have yours. Just seems strange to ask for money for a smartphone to me. No big deal. I can give him a basic flip phone free if he wants it. It does work fine.
I'm sure he'll get it soon and all will be cool. No need to get upset. Doesn't matter what I think about it to the ones that are donating.Last edited by Chrisy; 04-21-2011 at 01:31 PM.

That's the main point...what these guys do for folks here is something they could easily get paid to do in some way. They do it because they like to and simply want to help others, and ask for nothing in return. Not much of that going on around the world these days. I wouldn't know anybody on this forum if they ran into me and swyped
my Fascinate right outta my hand. And I do not mess with rooting or ROMS or anything. But I've learned an awful lot from reading what folks here have to say, and it's all out of their simple willingness to help others. Pretty cool in my book. And worth my $5.
