I have a New Trent Arcadia 7000mah portable charger. It has a 1A port and a 2.1A port (for tablets), but my GNex only recognizes it as a USB connection, so both ports charge at ~300mah. I'm just wondering if anyone else is using this charger, or using a different one that is recognized as AC.

I use an Anker 8300, $44 @amazon. Has two ports too, charges as USB. Has a flash light. It's about as convenient as it can be, definitely a good backup for our short battery life.

I don't see how a DC source could ever be recognized as an AC source.

What about car chargers? My car charger is recognized as an AC source. It might just be that this particular app only sees a source as AC or USB. Either way, the car charger performs at its advertised rate of 1A. I can plug it directly (through a series of DC adapter cords) to a marine battery, and it charges at 1A (or 1000mah, if you prefer).

I have an iSound 16000mah .It has 5 USB ports and an led flashlight.It's very high quality ,works great,and not too bulky or heavy,works for me.

My New Trent charger is now recognized as AC, and charges at 1500mah from the 2.1A slot. Haven't tried the 1A port yet, but there's no reason to expect that it won't charge in the 700-800mah range. That's MUCH better than the 300mah speeds I was getting with regular USB cords. Couldn't be happier with this portable charger and cord combination!

for easy external battery, look at the anker astro 5600 on amazon $41 3.5"x1.7"x.86" this comes w/ short charging cables and you can buy a small sub-min camera case for under $10 on amazon.

the 5600 mamp capacity puts out 1amp at 5 volts just like the oem samsung charger that comes with the phone.

there is one oddity. the nexus recognizes the usb cable as if you are charging from a computer usb port and and will only let the nexus accept 400 mamps rather than the full 1 amp that the battery puts out. this problem is also solvable:
monoprice3--sells a retractable micro usb charging cable the data pin are shorted-out so the the nexus will accept the full 1 amp charge and charge from the anker astro 5600 as fast as a wall plug oem sammy charger.

with this set up, i can fly all day long and half the night and have juice left when i arrive--watching video, listening to music and burning up power on angry birds

This is the one I have and it's a spectacular battery, and the perfect size to disappear into your pocket when you know you're going to be away from power for long periods of time.

Update: I bought a couple of the retractable charge-only cables from Monoprice, but my phone still recognizes the charger as USB with them. The only cable I have found that takes advantage of the charger's full capabilities is the one from Amazon that I linked to above.

Might try an Anker, but I honestly couldn't be happier with the New Trent using that Naztech cable.

I take it back! Using my Palm usb cord with my Anker charges as AC and it's not a charge only cord! And the Palm cord/wall charger was cheap.
