Stronger battery that doesn't require a new back

I've been thinking about getting this phone, but the battery life is apparently as bad or worse than (according to the good ol' internet) my current Thunderbolt's stock battery. I know for the Thunderbolt, a Rezound stock battery fit perfectly into the stock Thunderbolt, worked flawlessly, and was 250mAh larger.

Is there any situation like this that would work with the Galaxy Nexus? For instance, would a stock S3 battery fit into this phone without needing an extended cover (just a hypothetical)?

The 2100mAh extended battery will fit with the stock battery cover. That's said, the cover that comes with it is hardly any different than the standard.

Have you used the 2100mah one yourself? How much better is it than the stock battery generally, if so?

Yes. It's 13.5% better than the stock battery ((2100-1850)/1850=.135) So you will gain ~80 minutes of extra battery life for every 10 hrs of battery life you expect to get with the stock battery. The real key with the GN is screen time. It's a larger screen so it uses more battery when it's on. It can stream music all day long, but start watching videos and it will eat up your battery. So it depends on how heavy a user you are.

there are a ton of 2100mAh batteries without nfc that are no larger than stock

The picture has changed. Mine says 2800 while the current picture says 2200 but the description still says 2800.

What I'm saying is this listing used to be 2800 and I have a battery that displays 2800 but now it seems that it's only 2200 (as it now displays in the picture and they forgot to change the heading). I like my 2800 battery, is their a way to check if it's legit.

No. I ordered this and it is for the GSM Gnex not the Verizon one. I believe you need to have "T989" on the phone model number on the battery, not i9520. I found one online matching the original battery yosteve has, and when I get it I'll post again letting you know about fit/quality. I hope it actually is the 2800 one, not 2200, because I already have the 2100 official battery and would like more than an extra 100 mAh.
