Question about updating from ICS to JB

I have been on ICS 4.0.4 for a while now.

I've decided to make a switch over to JB. However, before I do so I have some questions about the data on my phone.

Will I be able to install it over my existing rom as is?

Or do I have to use the cache wipe and wipe everything and restart from scratch?

I really do not want to have to reinstall and reset everything. Is there any way I can avoid this?

I also do not want to lose my settings.

Have you unlocked and rooted the phone yet?

Read the unlocking guides stickied above. The unlock and root guide and the hitchhiker's guide should answer your questions. Yes you will have to wipe everything.. its really not as scary as it sounds though.. most of us here wipe our phones weekly or more often when we update or switch ROMs, we've got it down to a science, lol
