Technically isn't it incorrect to say you are hacking the GNex?
I mean the GNex is a developer's phone so they intended for people to be able to unlock and root the phone. Hacking connotates doing something the manufacturer doesn't want you to do, like jailbreaking an iPhone.
When the GNex was intended to allow users to easily get root access, I don't think we can call it hacking. - 12-30-2011, 01:04 PM #2

Why care? Make up your own word for it. Here I'll give you one... Nexturbating.
"I Nexturbated my g-nex as soon as I got home."
"Man my phone sure is awesome since I nexturbated it."
I'm bad at this. - 12-30-2011, 01:06 PM

Re: Technically isn't it incorrect to say you are hacking the GNe
Being a developers phone, you would think Verizon would relax its stance on the rooting vs warranty issue. Yeah for us nexturbaters its easy to get back to stock, but still....

"My girlfriend had to work late so I just stayed home and nexturbated all night."

Hacking hmmm. You still have to dl and set up files and type commands to unlock and root. If you want more done you have to pull it all apart and code it right and put it back together. So you still have to do stuff but not sure hacking is right but then what do we call it. Its easy to just say I hacked this and non tech people will understand you did something cool to your phone.

The moment "hacking" became finding someone who left their Facebook account logged in on a public computer the word died.

I'd say we do more of Modding and tweaking. When you crack a locked boot loader or bypass a boot loader like on the x they are the hackers. Geohot cracking the ps3 is hacking. Us flashing a zip someone put together to root I'd say more of a tweak.

Re: Technically isn't it incorrect to say you are hacking the GNe
Hacking, to me, connotes more than just doing something the manufacturer doesn't want you to do. It connotes that you're doing something the manufacturer doesn't want you to do AND you have malicious intent in doing so. For me, it's really the malicious intent that separates "tweaking", "optimizing", etc., from "hacking". But, that's just me.
