Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit
Ok - not sure what is going wrong then. I unlocked the bootloader a few weeks ago (confirmed by the unlocked lock at the bottom of the screen when the phone boots). Here are the steps I went through last night:
I opened up Wug's program and downloaded the additional SDK files that I needed - instead of putting them in the default folder, I put them into the platform tools folder that I had already set up. This is where my ADB and fastboot files are located. Im not sure if anything was actually loaded in here or not as Im unsure what additional files need to be added to the folder. I figured that Wug's program would take care of this on its own.
I then hit the driver install button and was given a prompt that I already had the samsung driver installed. I went through the additional steps as prompted and the program recognized my phone as an ADB device.
I then skipped the unlock step and went directly to the root step.
At this point, the program prompts stated something to this effect (Im at a different computer now, so unsure of the exact language):
SU could not be installed
Clockwork recovery successfully installed
My phone then went to the bootloader screen, it had a big green arrow that said START in it. Pursuant to the instructions provided by Wug's program, I used the volume keys to go to a red arrow that said RECOVERY (I believe). I then hit the power key. At that point, the phone went to the android with the red exclaimation point.
In reading Wug's help site, the only thing I can think that I may have done wrong is that I did not uninstall and reinstall the drivers that I had previously installed when I unlocked the phone - however, Im not clear as to whether this is required or not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I figured that this would be the easy part after unlocking : ) - 01-09-2012, 02:06 PM #127

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1
Thanks - that was an issue I had when unlocking the bootloader. I do not get the yellow exclaimation point now. So that does not appear to be the root (pun intended) cause of my issue. Also, if I use the flash stock unroot option, wont that require relocking the bootloader and unlocking again - thereby wiping my phone? At this point, if that is the only option, its probably more trouble than its worth as I specifically unlocked early to avoid having to wipe later, once everything was set up. - 01-09-2012, 05:46 PM #130

Back up Question
I'm late to the dance and now have a ton of data on my Nexus. I used to have a rooted droid x with titanium backup pro and now have My back up Pro. So, my question is, if I use My back up pro will all my programs and data be restored automatically as it used to be with titanium. I'd hate to start over... - 01-09-2012, 08:01 PM #132

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1
I'm getting the Android with the red exclamation point. But my question is, is there an app that I can get that is free to restore the CWM recovery instead of the paid one suggested (Root Explorer)? The free one won't let me change from R/O to R/W

Ok, so I'm having trouble with the recovery. I did the steps mentioned on how to change the recovery name, but after I reboot I'm still getting the Android with the red exclamation point. Any help would be appreciated.

In ROM Manager... install the Recovery. Directions are in the first steps in the first post of this guide: [Guide] How To Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Galaxy Nexus
Then follow the directions in the exact order from page 2 from that same guide I linked.Thanked by 2: - 01-10-2012, 04:43 PM #141

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1
This really wont work for me for some reason. Im assuming the drivers got screwed up in the beginning. I tried to flash the stock and unroot thing from using 1.0 and then going to 1.1, but it just said waiting for device and did nothing. Im not really sure what to do at this point.

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1
Unlocked and rooted! Thanks for all your hard work....
Quick question, does the USB debugging have to stay checked? And just for future reference, what would break the root access (if any). By that I mean, OTA updates etc... - 01-11-2012, 12:34 AM #144

Having some issues here... for starters I'm on windows 7 64 bit. I installed the adb and Samsung drivers and all was well I think. I start the unlock process and it sees the phone, reboots into boot loader, but I never get an option to unlock.
Its possibly a driver issue. In device manager it says Samsung fine but there are 2 identical devices that I can't get drivers for. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks
Just added a screen shot. when the phone is plugged in there is also "Android 1.0" above the two "Base System Devices"Last edited by Bond32; 01-11-2012 at 10:52 AM.

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1
so - I've searched through this thread and haven't found anyone else with the same issue (sorry if I missed it).
I have no problem loading the SDK and the drivers - total success.
BUT when I go to try and 'Backup Apps + Data' nothing happens. no indications of progress whatsoever. I left it alone for a while hoping it was just a silent background process or something but nothing happened...
am I missing something? I'm really not willing to wipe my phone at this point without having a backup of all my apps... since I've spent the last week adding them!
anyone else have this problem? or know what I'm doing wrong?
BTW - using Windows XP if that makes any difference. - 01-11-2012, 08:27 PM #148
Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1
After camping out in the Blackberry world for the past 3 years with my BB Storm (don't laugh too hard), I jumped from that sinking ship and entered the Android world with my shiny new GN. My GN has been unlocked for a week now, and a few days ago I finally got enough courage to root this fabulous piece of hardware.
Now I know absolutely nothing when it comes to rooting... And even though I pulled my hair out, threw things, and taught my kids some new words (those damn drivers!), I'm finally rooted!
I just wanted to say thank you to WugFresh for making this a better transition for me with this Toolkit. I couldn't imagine doing this the "hard way"... Now all I need to do is look up info/directions for Titanium Backup, ROM Manager, and Root Explorer. Which brings me to my question...
Does anyone know of a tutorial or step by step guide for these products? From what I have heard, they are the best at what they do. Please keep in mind my lack of Android expertise. Or maybe you can suggest some other products that I should learn about.
Next step... Learning about backups. Then.... Installing ROMs.
Thanks again. - 01-11-2012, 08:49 PM #149
Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1
I can definitely relate I had the same story just I am still using a BB 9930 and the GN personally. If anyone can recommend a good step by step tutorial for the Backups and Roms I would love to learn. I know BB's inside and out but I am ready learn all here with android.

Re: [Automated] Wug's Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.1
I have unlocked with root, my nexus ... we are sure that Google is preparing an update for ics, if accepted would lose the root, but also the phone is locket again??
I still am not very profecional on this but I try, it would be easier in this case will return to the root or install a rom of some developer?
and which of the two would be better?
thanks for all you help guys...

. It doesn't backup your phones storage though (music, photos, etc..) so transfer everything over to your computer before you start the unlocking bootloader process.
