$5 Fee to Process Google Wallet Prepaid Card rebate
Have a rooted Nexus and installed GW the moment it was available. As you know, they (ostensibly permanently) disabled access to the prepaid card function for us early adopters, although late adopters seemed to have regained this ability.
Lacking the ability to actually access my balance, I contacted support to start the process of getting a refund. The company that handles the prepaid cards, The Money Network, wanted to charge me a $5 fee. I said I'd think about it and hung up.
On the one hand, they gave me $10 up front, so I'm not as angry about the fee as I otherwise would be, but on the other I disagree with the notion of my having to pay to access my prepaid balance because they decided to turn off access to my rooted device. It would be one thing if the refund request was at my discretion of leaving the service on my own terms vs. being forced because they kicked me out. That said, this is extortion, pure and simple.
EDIT: Bonus question. Google seems to tout the ability to use GW to purchase Google Play apps. I don't seem to have that functionality. How does one go about? - 03-11-2012, 09:27 AM

Re: $5 Fee to Process Google Wallet Prepaid Card rebate
Hmm..I read on XDA that others are now having success reprovisioning their devices. I just tried and I too can now again see my balance, so this may be a non issue on the micro level.
From a macro standpoint, still disagree with the fee though. - 03-11-2012, 09:34 AM #3
I did not have a problem. Got the nexus on launch and installed wallet a few days later and got the $10. A few weeks ago it stopped working and I could not see the balance because of the system upgrades. The other day I launched the app and was told of a update. It took me into the market so I clicked update. Once it was done I opened the all and clicked on the card. It took about a minute and then my money showed up. Have not had a issue using it now.
