What Rom is the Fastest?

By fastest, I am talking smooth as butter, and high FPS almost all of the time. So what is the smoothest fastest rom out there?

From my limited experience, between Liquid and AOKP, I would give a slight edge to AOKP. However, from what I've read, Bugless Beast has the "best" performance. Again, just my experience. Play around with a few and see what you think.

The fastest I've been on was Liquid with the V6 supercharger. A close second is AXI0M Patient Zero M1.

Now I'm no expert on this, but I would think that since these ROMs are based off the same system (ICS 4.0.x). That any real difference would be negligible at best.

Another variable to this would be, what kernel/ROM combination would be the fastest.

For the most part that's 100% correct. One variable that AXI0M and Liquid throw in are better, more efficient, and streamlined scripts. If you flash a rom like Codename (just an example) and then flash one of those there's a noticeable difference. Is it a placebo? Potentially. But I've flashed enough to have a sense that if it is a placebo, it's one that's fully fooled me ;).

I agree with your last statement. And not only that, but what settings were used in coming to the determination.

I was running bugless for months. Gave CM a run and found it to be nice but not as fast as bugless.

IMHO Liquid 1.25 is the best performance and still retain awesome battery life. But yes we are talking 5% differences at best only noticeable if u pay close attention.

I found several roms to be nearly equally fast on my device - liquid 1.25 w/ v6, several pz builds, and a recent cm9 build.

but I do think that "getting over the hump" of the very close speeds of any of these competitive roms will come down to what kernel you've got, how it's set, and how your phone cooperates with it.

If you're judging performance using benchmarks I gotta 3600 on LiquidSmooth 1.25 and Franco's r133. I noticed you used the FPS term so I assume you care about benchmarks :)

Throwing "Redemption ROM" in to the mix here. It's my stable ROM, has been since December, and I don't miss Bugless one bit.

Lou really nailed it in terms of speed and smoothness.

Its on Rootzwiki. Its been around for a long time and was one of the first Roms to be created. I ran it myself for a while until completely moving on to AOKP. Its not a bad Rom at all. Its been a long time since I ran it, but when i did, it offered a pretty stock experience.

This is a really subjective question as we all view and perceive things differently on our phones not to mention we are talking about Android here where every user, no matter what Rom we use, set things up completely different than the next guy. One guy may have a ton of Widgets running while another is a minimalistic guy running virtually nothing.

All that being said and i believe true, the best thing to do is just flash Roms. Run them a day or two...maybe more. Pay attention to how your phone is running.

I'm not saying its bad to ask others, but I don't think you should necessarily put too much stock in what we say. I will say that there's something to be said with slimming down a Rom. For example, Team Liquid really slims down their Roms removing unnecessary things, and i can say it seems pretty fast to me.

Also, there are kernels. Kernels are huge. Very important to not only have a Rom which runs fluid and fast but a kernel which compliments the Rom and your phone. Not all phones are made equal which brings me back to my original point: flash Roms. Flash kernels. Evaluate and test. :)

Crossbones AOSP with matrix kernel, best combination of speed, stability and long battery life.

I don't get anything higher than 3100 using liquid 1.25 with v6, Franco r135. Battery life is meh too. Might need to try different kernels.

I'm with SOTK on this, it's subjective.

Benchmarks between ROMs prove to be a highly inaccurate comparison so there isn't any way to quantify the speed.

That leaves everything on to user's perception of the ROM which can be determined by so many factors.

What kernel did they install with the ROM or was it stock?
How long did they run the ROM for?
What build were they running? Most of these ROMs being suggested have nightly versions and their performance can vary from version to version
What other settings did they tweak?
What was the user's expectation of the ROM going in?
How are they defining speed? Is it snappiness? Load time? Fluid game play?

My experience is that you need to run a ROM for several days to really get an idea of it's overall speed. Most ROMs are quick initially but after you get everything installed and start using it that's when you start to see slow down.

Additionally, the answer will never hold true for long. When the VZW Gnex came out there were like 3 ROMs. Overtime there will be more and they borrow tweaks from each other so that will close the gap between them over time.

I'm by no means knocking the question or the answers, they are all good. I just think it's important to help illustrate that the answers can't be clear, cut and dry. If you get one, I wouldn't put a whole lot of credit in it but i would check it out for yourself, especially if it's repeated a few times.

That being said, throwing another one in for Bugless Beast w/ Franco. It's a personal favorite, which is probably all most of the suggestions you are getting really are. No one picks a ROM because it's the slowest :)

I agree with Bugless Beast. After trying a bunch of different roms, I'd have to say that Bugless Beast has consistently been the fastest.
