Re: Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 root help
You can do it thru rom manager but I never do. I dl the file from goo.im or a rootz thread, place in downloads folder, and flash thru recovery mode.
I like aokp and when I'm feeling a change lately its been paranoid android. Cm9 is heating up tho. I was a big fan of cm7 on my incredible.

Re: Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 root help
**sigh** Okay . . . have flashed CWM Recovery, both regular and Touch (Touch is awesome, btw), and SuperUser 4.0.4. Several times.
Problem is, as soon as I try to reboot into recovery, I get the dead Android with the red triangle. I thought SU404 was supposed to fix that, by overwriting the VZW file that keeps wiping out root? And even with root inspectors, I can't change the filename or delete the file, because it's read-only.
Enough for today, but I'll try again tomorrow. (I really think the 4.0.4 OTA from Verizon, with my bootloader unlocked, has something to do with this, but not really able to think clearly about it now.)
So any suggestions are welcome. - 06-26-2012, 07:48 PM #33
Re: Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 root help
You have root access (to apps, like rom manager), right?
you need to reflash recovery every time you want to boot into it, if you are stock and havent overwritten the stock recovery file manually - once you reflash recovery (thru rom manager or fast boot whichever you prefer) you should be able to boot into it. then, once you've flashed a rom, you won't have to keep doing that - it'll work without reflashing recovery.
just make sure when you flash the rom, wipe data, cache partition, and dalvik cache when you go from stock to a custom rom.
gl!

Re: Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 root help
Bingo! Going straight to Recovery after flashing CWM was the secret. Dunno why I didn't do that before, but I'm now running CM9. (It was the only one I had on the phone, and I didn't want to screw around with trying to find something else!)
BTW, I couldn't find AOKP at goo.im, but I think I have a link for it elsewhere.
Thanks again for all the help—and the patience! Hard to believe I had an easier time flashing CM7 to my DroidX! Guess I am getting older.

Re: Galaxy Nexus 4.0.4 root help
I downloaded Wug's toolkit, can I use it to unlock and root my Nexus phone running 4.0.4 or will I need to download the new su file from the links provided? TIA
