ROM thoughts
So I have had the GNEX since it released and it still sits here totally stock with no root access...I know I know puppies just died somewhere. I had the original Dinc previously and I hacked the crap out of it. Roms, Kernels, etc.. It almost became a bit of a hassle. After I would flash a ROM and set it up they way I wanted it seemed to run fantastic for a few weeks. Then I would notice bugs, lag, battery drains, etc. No matter whose ROM I was running it seemed as if I needed to refresh it. Has anyone had experience with this? Am I crazy? This is why I have put off touching my GNEX, coupled with the fact that it is pretty smooth and has no bloat anyway. What are your thoughts?

Re: ROM thoughts
ROM Development has come a long way in a short time. Most of today's builds you will find to be much more stable than what you were used to with the Dinc. I'd recommend something like Pete's Bugless Beast which is completely stable and able to be used as your daily driver forever if you want.. if you are hungry for more features the recent CM10 kangs have also proven to be very stable and pretty much bug-free. AOKP is probably a while away from a "milestone" Jellybean release, but when they get there you can be sure it will be another strong competitor.

Re: ROM thoughts
Right now, I think the best builds out there (IMO) are:
CM10
Bugless Beast
AOKP
Like 2def said, BB is very stock--it gives you a stable, stock JB experience. CM10 has a bunch of features baked in and the CM team are probably the best bunch of devs out there. It's constantly updated as well. AOKP was probably the "best" ICS rom available and just started releasing JB previews. Some bugs, but they are progressing nicely.
For myself, I've flashed all three but for the past week I've been on CM10 (mostly) and AOKP (most recently).Former moderator & advisor.

Re: ROM thoughts
I honestly thought it came from updating apps thru the market once running the ROM...any thoughts on that?

Re: ROM thoughts
depends on the rom. some have bugs and some get bogged down with cache/dalvik. i have mostly noticed this using sense-based roms on thunderbolt and ports across various devices. aosp roms are generally not susceptible to that unless there's coding errors (not going to name names here but ... some devs ...

on the gnex, roms are different than on previous devices. dunno how much different they are from, say, a nexus s, or something, but from my previous htc devices it's night and day.
and i suppose some updated apps might not play nice with the rom after some time, if you keep a rom for a month or longer that seems plausible. i would think tho they would rather just stop working, if there was an issue, but i have no idea really.

I've used Bugless Beast and CM10 and feel good recommending either one. I am currently using Saturday's build of CM 10 and haven't experienced a bug yet.
