The short version is that I love reading bio's and learning little more about our members. It's always something I've enjoyed.

When the Galaxy Nexus is finally released, I will randomly pick 3 members and send out a free Galaxy Nexus case (once available in the AC store).

Special consideration will be given to those who regularly participate in the forums and stay away from personal attacks and trolling.

There will be no bias toward those who do not answer each of the questions, or the way in which they are answered.

Pics of your current phone would be cool too!

Former OS/Device:

  • Blackberry
  • WebOS
  • Windows Mobile or Windows Phone
  • iPhone
  • Other
  • Which phone/devices?

Previous Forums:

  • Crackberry
  • P|C
  • W|P
  • TiPb
  • Other

How would you describe yourself - in terms of forum participation?

  • I'm manically looking for the latest and greatest news and rumors, but after the Galaxy Nexus is released, I'm out of here.
  • I'm a forum addict pre & post release.
  • I lurk in the background.
  • I only visit forums when I'm trying to find an answer to a problem.

Any other interesting stuff you feel comfortable sharing.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

I am currently using an iPhone 4. I have owned every iPhone since it was originally released. I also own a number of other apple products, including imac's, iPads, iPods, MBA, and a Mac pro. I guess you could safely say that I am a dedicated user of apple products.

I waited for over 14 months for the next iPhone. I was seriously disappointed in the 4s. I wanted a larger screen and a different form factor. The 4s provided neither of these. Therefore, I began looking at alternatives to the iPhone to meet my needs. The galaxy nexus appears, on the surface, to meet all of my needs. I can't wait for it to be released and give it a 14 day thorough trial. I am excited by the larger screen and ICS. This seems to be the first version of android that will be able to captivate me and get me off iOS.

Yes, I am a forum junkie. I frequent many apple forums and now this one. I look forward to both learning from and sharing with the members of this community.

Wow...its been a long road to Android. First smartphone was a Motorola Q. Learned to customize from forums like this. Then went Blackberry (one of those big blocky ones with the huge keyboard). Stayed with the BB through the Curve, then started hearing about Android through BBcrackman on Crackberry. I wasn't convinced, so i waited to see what would happen with the OG Droid. Started digging in and got a Droid X when it launched. Never going back!

I love the forums, first started using them to solve problems. Learned root and roms, and am always flashing something. Now I am helping others more than I used to, although not as mich as I should considering how much these forums have helped me.

Will stay active before and after the launch of the Nexus...can't wait to get one!

I use an HTC Ozone that I cant stand because I cant afford anything else until I upgrade my contract. My enV Touch broke and I got a Ozone off ebay for 50 bucks. Now I know why lol.

I would take a picture, but I have no good way of doing so....

I started on the forums as a guy looking for the perfect time to spend 300, and became hooked on android and helping people that dont understand smart phones. I've become the go-to guy in my circles as someone who doesn't make fun of you and gets you the phone you want.

I want to stick around the forums some, but work is accelerating and may be hard to do. Sucks.

Cant thank the AC forum community more for their help and expertise as I make the plunge to Android.

Neat idea you got here. It should help keep us busy who are addicted to checking these forums. :p

About myself: I live in Montana. Currently attending college for an Associates degree in Metals Fabrication (CNC machining, Metallurgy, Welding certifications, etc.) I'm outdoorsy (hard not to be around here). I love to hunt, fish, hike, explore, etc. I also love technology, whether it be a fancy new phone, gaming console, gadget, tool, or something so cutting edge it's not even available yet.

My first personal cell phone was an LG Dare. It was decent for it's time but was quickly overshadowed a few months later when I learned about a little phone called the Nexus One. I drooled over the thing for quite a while.

As everyone knows, it was "going" to come to Verizon. Good news for me as Verizon is literally the only carrier with service worth paying for around here. Well, that dream was crushed with a big red fist. So, like many others, I went with the Droid Incredible.

The Incredible is still my current phone. It's been an amazing phone. I recieived it in the mail from Verizon two days before the official launch. I went almost a year stock before rooting and installing custom roms. Currently, I am running CyanogenMod 7.1. Custom roms have definitely helped to keep the device feeling fresh, but it is starting to show it's age hardware wise. I've kept it protected with a Seidio Innocase Rugged combo case and it still looks as new as the day it was delivered. I don't have any pics of the phone, but I do have screen shots:

screenshot-1320000141626.png

I am a member, and mostly a lurker, of various forums. XDA, CyanogenMod, CandlePowerForums, EDC, and many more. It takes quite a bit of interest to spur participation from myself. My first forum was Action Replay Central, which I've been an active member since 2006. A forum dedicated to hacking GameCube games and a place for hackers to post their homemade codes. Much like flashing a custom rom to a phone, using codes on a game you've beaten added some extra fun not possible otherwise. I eventually became a moderator there, then not too long after an Administrator. It was fun while it lasted, but the forums sort of died when the product it was centered around became obsolete. Lets hope that doesn't happen here! ;)

Former OS/Device:
For the past 2.5 years, I've been using a WinMo Samsung Omnia, which now has a broken touchscreen T_T. I went for that because I was always a windows kind of guy, and I LOVED mobile shell at the time, pretty much before I knew about anything Android. I've been sitting on my upgrade since April and have been waiting for the Bionic since CES, but I blew my saved up monies for that phone in the casino lol. I'm so glad I did, because I never would have waited for my soon to be brand spakin new and awesome Nexus. It's time to switch to the Android side

I actually first started using AC forums for any news/info/knowledge about the bionic, and since it got delayed horribly, I leveled up my Android/smartphone/rooting knowledge immensely reading topic after topic, day by day. After the bionic was released, I actually stayed off AC for about 3 weeks... but you guys kept pulling me back lol. I love the frontpage and the news you guys give. I used to be a forum junkie back in college, but that was for video games lol, but it seems you guys have revived that part of me. AC is now one of my very very select sites I visit on like a 4 hr interval for any updates lol. Usually I lurk, unless I'd like to add something useful, or like or thank a post. I'm sure even after I get my Prime, I'll be here... lurking, and learning about the latest and greatest.

Yay for intriductions.... Oh yeah....

I come from a Palm Pre 2 :) After HP decided to dump the webOS hardware, I decided that it was time for me to go, but only on the phone side. I love webOS so much that I will be keeping my HP TouchPad for as long as it can last. I am VERY excited about the Galaxy Nexus, it's going to be one heck of a phone.

Obviously, my previous forums was the amazing community at the PreCentral forums. I have not seen any community more active or kind in my gadget travels.

I am on these forums every day, as in... EVERY day. I don't post things every day, but I read a majority of the posts every day. I like being in the PreCentral and Android Central forums so I can learn new things. I have learned so much over the course of time in these forums, and I plan to continue to do so.

I have had experiences with every mobile operating system. My first smartphone was a Palm Centro. After that, I became a BlackBerry user for a while. After that device, I purchased a Samsung Instinct (the original one), and did not enjoy it very much. This brought me into the smartphone real one year later when Palm released the original Palm Pre. I stayed with the Palm Pre for a year, and when I figured out that Sprint was not releasing a sequel to it, I moved to the HTC Evo, which I didn't really enjoy because I played a lot of 3D games on my Pre, and when I purchased them on Android, the Evo could not play them smoothly. :-( For this reason, I purcahsed a Samsung Epic off contract a few months later, giving me a better graphics card! 5 months after that, I switch carriers because of the 5th major issue I had with Sprint, and I moved to Verizon. There, my first device was the iPhone 4. WHat this did to me was very important: it solidified my love for Android and webOS because I really, really was not a fan of iOS. Just two months later, I purchased a Palm Pre 2, which I adore and is my current phone along with a work-provided Droid Bionic and Samsung Fascinate (i switch between them- love the screen and camera of the Fascinate).

I am going to the Galaxy Nexus as soon as it comes out!

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

Hello, my name is Alex Deida, I'm 21 and a lover of all things tech, mainly in the mobile catergory just because I love carrying this small devices that have so much power, and can do so much, yet they still constantly and continually advance and amaze me further.

-Crackberry

My first smartphone was a Blackberry Pearl. I loved that phone, I bought it from my brother, for like $50 and I was 16 years old at the time. I just loved how much it could do, and Opera Mobile was an amazing browser for its time. My favorite thing about the phone itself was it's apps, screen and keyboard, because it was so unique and much better to text on then my pervious Boost flip phone. Since, I wanted to learn more about it, I came by a site called Crackberry.com which was the first of your sites I came upon. Amazing site, and support from the comminituy. From there, I jumped to the Blackberry Curve which was even better.

-TiPB

In 2007 a little phone with an i in it was released. My brother bought one and showed me it, I was amazed and blown away. It seemed downright revoloutionary to me. I had to have it, and bought the 8gb for $400 when the price drop was announced. That phone made me imensely popular, everyone would just come up to me and ask me to see it, and I loved it immensely. Again, wanting to learn more about it, and get help I came upon tipb.com which was theiphoneblog.com at the time, I believe. The phone made everything so easy by just touching it. In 08' the iPhone 3G was annouced which I was honestly pissed about because it was what the first iPhone should've been 3G and GPS. Got it anyways, and then the 3GS was released. Got tired of the iPhone, espeically when it looked the same (3GS) so I traded it for a BB Curve 8900 which was a huge upgrade to the previous Curve, but I got tired of the BB OS altogether, it just felt so dated after using an iPhone so I saw something else that caught my eye.

-Precentral

My next phone was a Palm Pre, on Sprint. Man this phone was amazing, the way you multi-tasked and the UI was just so clean and beautiful but I really loved synergy in which it brought everything together for me. I really thought Palm had something with this phone and OS and could compete with iOS (boy, that didn't happen). Keeping up with the news about my favorite device, and getting help etc became a habit, so I jumped to Precentral.com, another amazing site, where I loved the community and ethusium everyone had.

-Androidcentral

In 2010, Android was getting a little popular but I wasn't a fan of it. I found the UI to be completely ugly and a rip off of iOS, just a terrible rip off. Then I heard about this new phone coming from Google and HTC, which would come with the new Android 2.1, and be completely stock. I loved the UI, I finally found the UI attratrive and the features great but the phone itself amazed me. 1ghz CPU, high res 480x800 AMOLED display (compared to 320x480 on both the iPhone and Pre) and just the verall look. I had to have it, and figure it was time to jump to Android because I was tired and the Pre, and it was a little to slow for my taste. Sold my Pre and Laptop, and bought N1, for $500 on release day. Man, I could'nt have been happier. Jumped to this site, Androidcentral to keep up on the news and learned how to root. My first ROM was CyanogenMod 5, and I was amazed at what I could do with this phone, like when I flashed a Sense UI port it freaking amazed me that I could have Sense on my phone that easily and the customization was insane to me. Since then I've been following Crackberry, Tipb, Precentral and Androicentral, as you all grew and changed. Was pretty amazing and I've been with you guys for 5 years (now 21) and since, have owned a Samsung Vibrant, G2, and Sidekick 4G. I now currently own a Nexus S 4G.

So, as you can see I'm quite a nerd, and love my phones. I've learned a lot throughout the years, and have a huge love for Android for it customization, where I love iOS for completely changing the mobile world for the better.

Blackberry Pearl>Blackberry Curve 8310>iPhone>iPhone 3G>Blackberry Curve 8900> Palm Pre>Nexus One>Samsung Vibrant>G2>Sidekick 4G>Nexus S 4G

In terms of Forum Participation on this site and the others, I lurk in the backgroud. I'm mostly in XDA and much more active there just because that's where I find all my ROMS, Kernels, etc.

My current phone is the HTC Incredible, rooted running CM7. Before that I had the Moto Droid and the Droid Eris. Before I got into Android I was a log time Crackberry user. At work we just rolled out a fleet of Lenovo Thinkpad tablets that so far seem to be working great.

I frequent the forums on a daily basis, looking to help out where ever I can.

I'd describe myself as the epitome of a forum lurker that has an addiction to new technology. It's been over 2 years since I've been excited about a new phone, and the Galaxy Nexus is like a breath of fresh air. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Currently, I'm rocking the BlackBerry Storm 2 with the 'updated' v5.0.0.1015 OS circa November 2010. Having integrated Gmail built into the BB operating system has been the only thing that's kept me from tossing this thing in the recycle bin. My earpiece speaker quit working about a year ago and all calls that need to be made are done via speakerphone. I'm "That Guy" when I'm in public. The only thing that I'll miss about this phone is SureType, but I'm sure that emptiness will be short lived.

Prior to recently joining AC, I hung out at Crackberry mostly downloading the latest leaked OS versions to try and make the Storm 2 actually function. There's no doubt I'll be using AC as a great source of information and to help me along this new (to me) Android experience.

Here's the current rig:

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

Lets see, my smartphone trip began when I finally switched to AT&T from Cricket many years ago, then learned the error of my ways and went to Verizon and have been happy ever since.

Started with iPhone 2G on AT&T ... I am one of the people that bought the 4gb version at $500 even on contract then got the shaft when stupid Apple dropped the price what a month later? Then sent me a $100 gift card that I could only use on their sh!t !!! Can you tell how happy that made me? After that and having to use the POS software known as iTunes i'll never buy ANY other Apple product again. After almost 2 years of not being able to use my phone in my house at all, had to go out to my street to get a signal with the 2G and AT&T I got wise and went to Verizon.

With Verizon I have not been happier, only complaint is the higher price even with my 15% discount on all services but the service is worth it to me!

So on Verizon I started with the BB 8330 Curve ... nice little workhorse phone I still have it laying around. Then I gave the BB Storm 1 a try but took it back for my 8330. Then tried the BB Storm 2 which was much better! Sold the Storm 2 and went to the BB Tour, gave that to the wife and went with the Droid Incredible, great little phone but a little too small. Stood in line at the local Verizon store and got the Droid X next. Gave the X to the wife and went on to my current phone the Tbolt. Was NOT happy with the Tbolt for a while, as soon as they turned on LTE in my area my phone reset every 2min! Verizon sent me a replacement and the new one works great and I have no complaints!!!

However on to the Galaxy Nexus next and I can't wait!!! I'll be there in line again!

As for forums phone related ... Crackberry and Androidcentral.

Non phone related ... Supraforums, GSXR1000, R1 Forums

Current OS/Device: Blackberry Tour

Previous Forums: Crackberry until I got the questions I needed answered and then I was pretty much out of there until my upgrade period started looming. Then I discovered this place.

How would you describe yourself - in terms of forum participation?
I was originally manically looking for the latest and greatest news and rumors, but now I'm only waiting for same news of a release. After the Galaxy Nexus is released, I'll stick around and ask/answer questions until I have my experience to where I'd like it. I'm guessing I'll lurk in the background after that. I don't normally talk much unless I think I can point out a facet of the conversation people are ignoring.

This will be my first Android phone. While I'd like to go vanila OS to be able to judge whether issues I hear about are Android or skin based, I also wouldn't be adverse to going with a different model, if I feel performance wins out. It's very possible I wind up with a more mid-level phone for the next two years while I wait for something sized between the iPhone and the Nexus proves itself to be as special as the upcoming Nexus. While I don't think the Nexus is too big for me, I live in a city where expensive phones are literally a magnet for thieves and people get beaten for them. I'd hate to feel that I can't take my phone out to respond to a text or take a picture because it's too conspicuous.

All that being said, I'm currently waiting for the Nexus

I am a 36 year old mother of two, and a geek at heart. I am currently rocking a rooted OG Droid that I had to root way back before all of these one click methods came out. :) I have run ROMs from CM,Project Elite,Miui, and Pete A. I also have a rooted Nook Color rocking CM7. My husband thinks I am nuts because I root my devices, but I converted him to an Android with a Thunderbolt. I mostly read, but he is now an active forum participant.

My much beloved OG is dying a slow death, and I plan to get some Nexus goodness. I am trying very hard not to go stand in line in front of Big Red.

Re: Introduce Yourselves (oh and there's a contest in here as wel

Android was my first personal use smartphone OS. I'd worked with Blackberries at various points for over a decade, including developing a couple apps for work, but never owned one myself. When the DROID came out, though I jumped in and got my first smartphone. When my DROID's touchscreen started acting up and then partially died, I was one of the "lucky" ones who got a free upgrade to a DROID2 with the warranty replacement. BLUR annoyed me so much that I got Verizon to replace that with a refurb DROID. A couple months ago, that started having radio issues (no WiFi at all, EVDO iffy), so I hopped on Craigslist to get a temp replacement until the Nexus and pure Android came back to VZW.

Former OS/Device:
BREW/Moto E815
Android/DROID (and briefly DROID2)

Current Device:
Banged up used Droid Incredible running CM7 that I got to tide me over until the G-Nex.
