Went over to the dark side...

Ok, only temporarily, but I went to the Verizon store tonight because my Droid X chose to die tonight (well, apparently the WiFi antenna did). Looked at the Razr (very cool design, gorgeous screen, very light and thin, HORRIBLE camera, Bionic-like hiss on headphones between songs). Also looked at the HTC device (great screen, bulky, hate Sense, nothing new or exciting). When the sales rep heard me gripe about the camera on the Moto devices, she told me to look at the iPhone 4s. I laughed and said, no thank you, not for me.

So she dragged me kicking and screaming and I looked and took about 10 pictures and HOLY COW, that camera is nicer than my $300 Canon point and shoot! Screen on the iphone is also gorgeous. So, between needing a new phone suddenly, the GNex drama/delays today and the iPhone being right there, I succumbed and upgraded. But not without getting a free case and waiver of my $20 early upgrade fee. ;)

Never fear, GNex fans, the dark side is only temporary for me. As soon as the Nexus comes out (whenever that is, DOH!), I am going to pass the iphone down to my DD, who will be ecstatic, and take her upgrade to get back to my beloved, highly customizable Droids. In the meantime, I have a new phone to play with and I will get less of a heart attack reading the "when is this phone finally being released" threads on this board. Win win for all.

PS: lady at store had no idea what ICS was, when GNex was coming out (never heard of it), etc... She did however agree to replace my Droid X under the warranty so at least I have a brand new refurbed phone to sell for a little money back. Also, she told me they heard TODAY about another Samsung phone on sale (on line only) with ICS but with a smaller screen also. Forgot what it was called but they didn't have a demo and small screens (I think she said 3.5") are not my thing in general.

Your vzw store had an iPhone 4s in stock? you got lucky! my store is on back order till Dec 15th (and us G Nexus peeps think we have it bad)

You probably gonna have to adjust to the way smaller screen and no menu and back buttons and no widget action but good move. This waiting around is getting to be a drag.
Ask siri when the nexus is getting here.

The very last iPhone 4s white 16G. She told me Dec 8th for the black one. I looked on line tonight and saw that both the apple stores near me and Verizon online HAS the iPhone 4s in stock tonight. So if all else fails, you can order it on line with 2d shipping for free and get it by Tue...

Come to LA. Every apple store, Verizon store, and bestbuy has loads of iPhone 4S. I might get one to hold me over. Right now I have a thunderbolt with a grandfathered unlimited 4G data plan. If I switch to the iPhone 4S can I keep my unlimited 4G data through to.the Galaxy Nexus? Does anyone know?

The iPhone is a GREAT phone and i wouldn't mind owning one. But after being a Droid Incredible owner for so long there are some things i have learned that i cant live without...back button, menu button, website text auto-forming to the screen is a big +++, and dialing by name - another big +++.

Enjoy it until the Nexus arrives.

P&S = point and shoot

I owned a thunderbolt, went to iphone 4, went back to thunderbolt after 3 weeks (bought it outright). I could not stand the interface. Nice phone, battery life was ok, but 3G data speeds sucked when I was home and just about everywhere else I go is 4G in my area. I hate sense, too, but it does offer some nice features like pinch to zoom in the stock mail app. What finally got me was trying to e-mail multiple pictures. You have to copy and paste each one, one-at-a-time. Annoying and that was the straw that broke the camel's back. I missed android so much I was so happy to have a thunderbolt without a reboot issue in my hands. Been rockin CM7 since the original beta's and now that HTC has released the kernel source, my bluetooth works perfectly and I honestly don't have a complaint about the phone anymore. I can ride this Nexus BS out now.

I'll be rocking a Thunderbolt too.
The power button has not been working all too well on my Incredible. I thought for sure I would have the Nexus by now. Since it's now rumored to come out in December, I knew I couldn't go that amount of time with a defective device. I ended up grabbing a Thunderbolt off eBay until the nexus has come out, and the kinks have been ironed out. I should have my TB within a few days from now.
I have a feeling that leaks for new smartphones may start to surface that may perhaps have better specs than the Nexus. If so, this might turn out to be a good move.

Yes I got to keep my unlimited dataplan. I asked about 19 different ways and they confirmed. I got the email confirmation this am and it says unlimited data plan. I called Verizon this am for shipping info and apparently it shipped and comes Monday. Yaaay. My DROID X replacement will be here then too. Seriously thinking of not activating the iphone and just giving it to my DD for xmas.

DH just pointed out no swype on iPhones. Oy!

Be careful. You may fall in love with the iPhone. It has that effect on people. :)

The fact that the iPhone was announced and was made available shortly after the announcement is a big plus.

So, where you looking for a phone or a camera? Based on what impressed you it seems a new digital camera would have better satisfied you. You gave up a lot for picture quality.

Also happens with going over to the dark side :)
(referring to the title and references in the first post)

When I owned a 300zx, we joked the darkside was a twin turbo conversion or purchase. How amazingly different the car is with twin turbos.
