Oh no, now what do I do??

Some of you may have read my thread "going to the dark side" where I bought an iPhone 4s last week because my Droid X died. I was going to give it to my older DD (12) for Christmas and get the GNex for myself with her upgrade.

Well, I have the iPhone and really don't like it. I mean, really, really does not agree with me. I wrote an extensive comparison here (Went over to the dark side... ) so I won't go into why again but needless to say, I am an Android girl. I cannot wait to get rid of my phone.

So I am talking to my DD this evening (she now has my replacement Droid X) and I ask her to make conversation, "which phone do you like better, my iPhone or the Droid X." She looks at me and says, "Mom, after having the Droid for a week, I think I like it much better than the iPhone." Uh-oh. Remember, she has no idea I am planning on giving her the iPhone 4s for Christmas!

So now what??? I was fully planning on giving her the iPhone and taking her upgrade to get the GNex. But she's really liking the Droid X and has it customized to everything she wants, minus 3-4 apps she bought for her ipod touch way back when, which I can rebuy for her for $0.99 each.

So do I take the iPhone back? I have only 7 more days. And I will be out of a phone for a few days then because she has my darn Droid X! Plus, then I don't have a Christmas present for her? But on the bright side, she'll have an upgrade standing by for the next greatest thing come Spring! UGH. I am at a loss here. A very unexpected loss....

Use her upgrade, sell the iPhone, use the money for a Christmas present... Or the better thing would be return the iPhone...

Return the iphone, go back to your droid x and wait it out until christmas ish time. The nexus should come before christmas, so when it does, go buy it real quick and then boom. You got the nexus while you can pass the droid x to someone else.

Now if it doesn't come out by christmas...occupy verizon?

Exactly! Sigh...

DH is still an iPhone user though. He has a 4 and is waiting for the 5. No way can I convert him to Android. But I unexpectedly converted DD, apparently.

Take the iPhone back and trade it for the RAZR, give that to her (now as a early Christmas present) and then use her upgrade for the GN like you wanted to. It's a win win. The reason I say give it to her early is so you can give it to her new out of the box and it will truly be for her instead of a hand me down.

Good suggestion. I liked the Razr when I played with it at the store. Very light and wonderful screen. And ICS upgrade coming, right? Could be a nice solution.

But then I blow both upgrades on my only 2 lines with VZW. May have to get the Razr at Costco so if a keyboard version comes out like it's rumored to do, I can do an upgrade for her. She's had a real keyboard on her D1 and liked it a lot, although now she's all over swype. Maaan, kids learn fast...

Return the iPhone otherwise you're stuck with it. If you really don't like it I would suggest finding another phone for the next 2 years. If you have an older phone you can activate it temporarily and ask to keep unlimited data when you go back to a smartphone assuming you have unlimited now.

I was thinking the same thing. Every time I see DD, I think "designated driver" but I live in ND and we like to drink here....

I agree with TX_tuff, maybe wait till the last day to return the iphone so the christmas present isn't quite as early? or if you have an old phone lying around, just use that for a while. and give her the razr on christmas.

lucky daughter you have. even in this day and age, I would never have gotten a smartphone at 12

You say you only have 7 days till you have to return the iPhone. Verizon said they extended the return period to January 15, so aren't you in that window?

Doesn't DD usually stand for "darling daughter?" No clue what DH might stand for though.

I think that if you were to sell the 4s you probably wouldn't make enough money back from it to get the Galaxy Nexus. That being said, I'm pretty sure if you bought the phone before the 15th of this month you've got until January to do a return, so you could also wait, grab the GN for yourself, and upgrade your DD to a Droid 4. It appears the 4 has both a hardware keyboard and RAZR styling, so she'd probably love it.

Return the iPhone get and replace it with either a rezound or razr and just give that to her, I'm sure she'll be happy with either of those, and then you can get a Nexus still

Oooh, I forgot about the extended return period! THANK YOU! Does that mean though that when the 2 weeks are up, I am locked into an upgrade on this phone line? That should be ok since it is on my own line! HURRAAAY. This saved the day for me, I think.

Yeah, sucks to be me but my Droid X died so I had no choice, until I found out I had insurance and they sent me a replacement... Actually, with the extended return, this could work out very nicely.

You know what I miss the most on the iPhone? A darn back button!

Hahaha to these acronyms. Our teenagers like Iphones because it’s a fashion statement, nothing more. Older persons like them because they are just simply easier to use with those plain ole boring grid style icons. My SD (step daughter) desperately wants the iphone and I guarantee it's simply because it’s in style. She's never had one before but her friends do so of coarse she brainlessly wants one too. Guess what's under the tree for her now. Hint, it smells like rotten fruit

But since I supply my family of five with their phones, I have some control over what everyone uses and the rest of us have androids. Now my wife of course can choose what she wants and she has a Droid X that you couldn't pry from her hands for anything else. Especially since she has seen the problems I've had with my Droid Charge. In Motorola Droid X she trusts. I'll be setting up my other daughter with mine as soon as I can get my hands on that Nexus. I'm with kharrigan. You should try to get what you both will be happy with for awhile. Don't settle.
