Swapping battery covers
So does anyone know if the GSM and LTE versions of have the same size battery door? I am thinking I want to buy a GSM extra door since I'd much rather carry around something with Google on it than Verizon. Anyone out there know?

Re: Swapping battery covers
I'd love to know this. When the first images of the VZ branded back came out, a month or so ago, I posted on Samsung Mobile's facebook page asking this question. Of course, no response. I think we'll have to wait til the LTE version is out. I'm sure someone will try it and report their findings.

I've got the GSM version ... as soon as my LTE version comes, I plan on trying to swap the covers.

Fellow Buffalonian and Sabres fan here.
Yeah, seriously. If it works, it'll be a cheap, easy mod that brings the look of the phone closer to the rest of the Nexuses. A Nexus without Google on it is kinda, well, strange.
If it doesn't fit, no worries. But if it does, I'll probably snatch the GSM battery cover up. - 12-04-2011, 10:20 PM #7Thanked by:

Re: Swapping battery covers
this is purely conjecture, but I am going to have to go with a no, its not going to fit based on two pictures:

So lets break this down, first the lip at the bottom is the same, but since the LTE is thicker it won't dip in as much. You can see a shadow on the picture of the GSM version by the lip where it starts to head upwards. Verification in the side by side photo shows that there is not the same dip in as we move up from the bottom of the device. If you look at the camera there also seems to be a slight difference in the amount it is raised (the LTE version seems to be raised the whole way around the camera, the GSM version seems to be raised only towards the top).
We'll have to wait and see, but i'm going with a no. - 12-04-2011, 10:44 PM #14
Re: Swapping battery covers
I appreciate your opinion, but I think you might have missed the part where I said if it doesn't fit, no worries. It's not really a big deal. Verizon logo, Google logo, still the same sweet phone. But hey, while we're modding the inside via software, might as well mod the outside too. It's our choice and, provided the cover fits, some of us will swap them. You won't. Not a big deal.
I don't think anyone is blowing this out of proportion, it's just a subtle personal taste thing. - 12-04-2011, 10:47 PM #15

Re: Swapping battery covers
The display model at the Samsung store has the VZW logo on it. I think it's safe to say, in an otherwise generally unsafe realm of speculation, that it represents the production version.
And there's no telling whether big red will sell the alternate backplate, but chances are reaaaaaalllly really slim. I mean, the only difference would be the substitution of another company's logo for theirs. I mean, if you ran a company, would you do that? - 12-05-2011, 12:08 AM #21

Re: Swapping battery covers
If the GSM battery cover doesn't fit, I highly doubt another version with the Google logo will be produced specifically for the LTE model. There likely isn't enough demand from the public at large to justify the production of it.
