Pre-Orders/Stores that Confirm Availability

I love it when people don't think you have done your homework or the math. I would break the contract if they made me add data with another line because that would mean more money. I asked the associate at Best Buy all of those additional questions because I thought it would be obvious that I would have to add another data line. Not true. I pay $250 versus $270 to break contract. But the $250 is over 2 years, which I can handle. So while I'm sure it's exciting to zing someone and all, I'm pretty darn good at math :), and I want this phone at 550 (with 250 over 2 years) versus breaking, starting another contract (probably on a different carrier) on Sprint and waiting to see if mellow yellow picks the GNex up.

I just called my local RadioShack. They have the devices but they aren't allowed to sell them. They WILL sell them, period, the second the get the go ahead.

Furthermore, they claim they will have an unbeatable price (although they don't know what that price is yet...) and do allow preorders so you can pick it up guaranteed when the device is first available for sale.

The response I got from Costco is that they have absolutely zero information at all regarding the Galaxy Nexus.

I'll be calling other stores (RadioShack is closest to me, followed by Costco) and seeing what they have to offer. I'd rather not have to wake up super early and stiff arm seven other dudes just to get through the store's doors first like I had to with the Thunderbolt.

Consumerism at its finest.

My local Radio Shack has one in stock and they just put it on hold for me. They say I can get it on Thursday the 15th so here's hoping that VZW doesn't pull the rug out from under me

I was at a RadioShack this afternoon. They had one device and the manager was in the process of selling it to some guy right when I showed up. So I'm like can you check to see if any other stores have one in the area? They call up another store and confirm that they have one device in. About this time they were having trouble getting the guy's nexus to activate so the manager calls up verizon to see what the problem is and just like that, "no sale, come back next Sunday".

At this point I'm thinking why don't I drive to the other store and buy theirs and I'll try and convince them to let me activate it at home myself. So I drive over there and they tell me someone already got reamed out at a RadioShack by their regional manager for selling one and they can't sell it to me. The guy let me leave my name and number and promised to call me when they could. He said it would probably be Monday.

On Friday I was at a Best Buy. The lady there indicated that they had them in stock (10+ she said) and that they'd probably be on sale next week.

Oh well. :-\

FYI the price that RadioShack was giving the other guy was $299

Pretty sad when people try to trick or convince people to break the rules and sell them something they aren't supposed to and risk their jobs.

At least the guy who wanted me to sell him the PS3's before launch was willing to pay me a substantial sum for my troubles... which I declined of course since I value my job and have ethics.

I did, but it got moved here as "unconfirmed". Understandable since I've been lurking and that was my first post. Pix or it didn't happened, I guess :)

Local Costco has told me it's in stock, locked up and ready. I'm supposed to get a call the night before if they happen to find out it's going up for sale. The bundle from Costco sounds pretty weak so far, so hopefully it will change and get a little better.

I called my Costco, too, said the same thing. Bundle never is quite spectacular, but still...put my name on the list. I asked if the list exceeded stock, and he said they have a large shipment.

I visited four Verizon stores today, three corporate and one non-corporate. Two stores gave me the "its coming out soon" account without any hint of acknowledgment in response to my suggestion of 12/15.

The third stop, a non-corporate store (Verizon log, one employee) confirmed Dec. 15; said they received an email this morning and she offered to show it to me. I read it; it had a two-sentence line that stated that the phone would launch on Dec. 15 and that a "bunch" of phones would be available. The employee identified the person who sent the email as the head of her regional (non-corporate) division/company. (He was not a Verizon manager, and I don't know the name of the entity that owed this store -- which again, has Verizon stuff (only) and appears from the outside to be like any other Verizon store).

At the fourth (corporate) store, I stated that I was prepared to buy on launch date but needed to hold the phone, or if not, its case, to get a sense of its size, as that was my only reservation. She brought me a demo phone, not activated, in a thin silicon case and let me hold it. It's a tad bit wider than my dream size. (Looks like I'm going to have to get used to it). I did not press her about the date after the email visit, but my suggestion of Dec. 15 was received with a wide smile, as was my stated intention of showing up on Thursday when the store opened. (I know, that doesn't mean much).
