Re: Buying off contract
I am buying full retail. Sold some of my old phones to pay for it so pretty much is like getting it for upgrade price is what I will be paying out of my pocket anyway.

Re: Buying off contract
What's so frustrating is that not having a release date prevents me from deciding which way to go.

Re: Buying off contract
You can buy a decent laptop or tablet for the no contract Nexus.
The fact that you can put the Nexus in your pocket seals the deal for me.

Re: Buying off contract
I'm buying at full retail, but I just sold my iPhone for $700 so that should cover it for me.

Re: Buying off contract
Buying full price. Selling my iPhone 4 though four around $300 so I'm getting the nexus at the upgrade price about. Plus I think I get a military discount on the phone.

Re: Buying off contract
I will be but I'm selling my Droid Charge and 16gb iphone 4 so that should take care of a considerable percentage of the purchase. Haven't decided if I'm gonna keep my Bolt as my backup or sell it. I've been pretty happy with it since the GB update and purchase of the fatty battery. If the Nexus blows me away like I think it will I'll probably sell my Bolt as well.

Re: Buying off contract
The off contract price is supposedly $649.99 right?

Re: Buying off contract
I'll be buying it off contract because I don't like being locked into contracts. Its more expensive but if I get ticked off enough at any carrier I can jump ship without having to think about ETF's. Phones are easily sold so that's no big deal. Also, when I did have a major issue with Verizon, when they checked my account, retentions found that I was not on contract and if I threatened to leave I had no problem doing it. OTOH, I've always found Verizon to be more than willing to work out any problems we've had between us in a fair manner.

Re: Buying off contract
I'm buying off contract to replace my Thunderbolt. Was hoping to get some good money for my Thunderbolt, but I see them on eBay not going for very much... I'd be willing to throw in the original 32GB micro SD card (and I also have the extended battery), but if I'm only going to get $100-150 for all of that, it hardly seems worth it...

Re: Buying off contract
I'll be exchanging my Droid RAZR for the Galaxy Nexus, but if for some reason they wouldn't take it back, I'd gladly pay full retail for the Nexus.

Re: Buying off contract
I have an upgrade available, but still buying off contract. I don't like contracts.

Re: Buying off contract
I hate contracts as much as anyone, but you guys paying the same rate as the rest of us in contracts are paying MORE to the carriers in the long run. You don't get a discount for being out of contract. That is already baked into the prices.
So VZW's ETF is like $325 these days or so, right? the phones are subsidized that much, give or take. the "give or take" part you need to watch, as some phones are subsidezed more, or just worth more on the market, and you should buy those, and sell them. E.G. I have a Dell Streak, but it sold $300 on contract, $550 off, so $250 subsidy with a $300 etf. Bad. But the iPhone 4 at the time was $400 subsidized so I bought that, sold it, bought a Dell off the site with my MSFT corp discount.
I'll be taking some ETF with AT&T when I jump ship, but I've already been given MORE than that over a year ago, and the difference sat in my bank account during that time. Whereas you guys not in contract, are just bleeding money.
rant off, but please, do the math. - 12-07-2011, 01:23 AM #25
