Galaxy Nexus Upgrade Questions
Does anyone have suggestions or even know if it is possible to get an early upgrade to the Nexus? I asked 2 Verizon stores but they said I am too early (I know that!). I have had my Droid X since the end of September 2010 and really really want the Nexus but my upgrade is in May (18 months is terrible). Heard people on here say they somehow got early upgrades for the Bionic (and I am sure the Razr). Help! Suggestions?

I think you're out of luck for an early upgrade with that much time in front of you. You might consider adding a new line, porting your home number to the newly added line (getting rid of your current home phone bill), or paying full retail.

I have a similar problem - my upgrade isn't until March and I can't quite afford full retail. I've talked to a couple reps in person who immediately shot down any idea of an earlier upgrade than listed, but on release day I'm going to call and try one last time to wheedle an early upgrade out of them. If it doesn't work, I'm gonna pay the early termination fee ($90 since I'm using a feature phone) and open a new line for the Nexus. I read about porting my number to Google Voice to keep it, but honestly I've had this number since high school and I intend to never go back to that town, so I'm not fussed about that particular loss.
But shh, don't tell Verizon that I'm sticking with them either way. That would just ruin any leverage I might have! - 12-06-2011, 06:53 PM #5

You would however lose all loyalty with the company and be starting over so any loyalty things you might be able to get will be gone and this will put you back however long you have been a customer. I get things all the time for being a loyal customer so no phone is worth that to me IMHO

Admittedly, I didn't think of that - I'm currently still on my mother's family plan out of convenience's sake, so I've seen no loyalty things come my way. Do you know if my cancelling would kill any of her loyalty extra stuff? I'll have to look into that, but I don't think it will be drastic enough to negate the bonus of taking advantage of double data while I have the chance.

It should not affect her line because her number will stay the same and have to change to a single line plan and then back to a family plan, I do know though that some of the family plans got a increase in price in the last few years so it would revert to the new pricing if the one yall want has changed which could mess thing sup for your mom lol. Although if there is nothing new on the plan you have and want back then no harm no foul.

the cutoff must of been mid september or something.. because I bought my Fascinate September 2010 (the 14th) from amazon for a penny.. and Ive been eligible for upgrade since october.
infact.. even my second line was upgradeable already.. got that one upgraded on oct 25th.

Ahh, interesting! The guy at Verizon when we went to buy my stepfather a tablet for Christmas talked about changing our line since we don't use anywhere near the minutes we pay for, so we were considering changing the plan anyways, but he never did change it and we didn't find out what we'd lose besides minutes we don't use. I'll have to compare some contracts. Thanks for the info! (edit to add: Found the hitch; if we dropped down in minutes we'd lose the Friends and Family thing and end up going over the 700 - so we have no need to change the current plan, and further investigation shows the plan we use is still the same price so little or no chance of messing it up. Worse comes to worst I'll strike off on my own individual plan and there will be no mucking up.)
And thanks for the tip, philly. Perhaps unfortunately, this is the best feature phone I ever used, but I need a smartphone for school (pharmacy school, need it for rotations and because they say I need an iDevice to use their in-class quiz program but I know better) so that's the most legitimate reason I really feel I need the upgrade now now now.Last edited by belniente; 12-06-2011 at 08:03 PM.

I am available for upgrade in one week exactly, 12/22/11, and I was just shot down over the phone for an early upgrade to the Nexus. Called at 6:00 AM EST on 12/15/11. Your results may vary, but she was attempting to allow an early upgrade and it was a no go for the Nexus.

If you're upgrading, I'd say $249.99. At least that's what mine was after a "special offer." If you're looking for really cheap upgrade, Let's Talk (through Facebook) is selling the Galaxy Nexus for $174.99.

Are taxes different if you buy at Verizon online vs instore? When I bought from Radio Shack at one point they charged tax on the full retail price (despite fact I was paying discounted price). I thought I read somewhere that VZ online only charges tax on discounted price vs a Verizone retail store. Is that true?

Mine was $249, which usually it is only that price online but I guess now they do it in store also. Was due to me having a discount through my work.

somewhat complicated upgrade question
alright, so here's the deal...
I basically have two Verizon accounts, lets refer to one as a 'personal' family plan, and the other a 'business' family plan. I do not have any upgrades available on the personal family plan, however on the business family plan all three lines are eligible for an upgrade.
What I want to do is use one of the upgrades on the business plan to get the phone, and activate it on the personal plan. I have done this in the past, about five years ago with a dumb phone, but havent done it since.
Has anyone done this recently and had any success with it?
side note, if i can get this to work I would consider using the other two business upgrades to purchase two more GN's and then turn around and sell if anyone might be interested.

As long as you activate on the business line first, then deactivate and put whatever phone you want on that line, then you can activate on your family line. That's the only way it's going to work.
