auto correct, not sure when it's supposed to work

Agreed. It works everywhere but in text fields in the browser. Very annoying.

I wonder if this is "working as intended" or not. I have noticed that different apps, browsers, input screens, etc., use different versions of the keyboard which I also find to be annoying.

I have made multiple posts about it. The consensus seems to be that it is a bug that is supposed to be fixed in 4.0.3

We will see.

A good work around is Mozilla fire fox. Dolphin and Skyfire seem to have the same bug, but text prediction in Mozilla works fine.

are we talking about text fields within a webpage or in the address/search text field? I suspect that the autocorrection does not work in the address/search field because it is assumed that either you are looking for that specific term or url.

I've also noticed that a few times it doesn't auto correct when responding to emails (not Gmail). This isn't all the time but there have been a few times that it wasn't auto correcting. I discarded the response, went back in and it worked.
